ROON Core >90% CPU Usage

I’m running a Roon Core with Intel NUC 8i5BEH i5 8259U 16GB RAM 256GB SSD and connected clients:
(1) 1 Mini PC living room
(2) 1 INTEL NUC I5 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD (Music Room)
(3) Lenovo T480s Laptop, 32 GB RAM 500 GB SSD

Over the working hours only the (3) Lenovo is running as client, but in the evening times the (2) Music Room.
As I’m often streaming Internet Radio during work hours, the stream disconnects from time to time. At the same time, the van of the core is running on high frequency and the Roon Core is using 90% + CPU power and around 17.000.000 KByte RAM.
After some minutes, CPU usage is going down to ~20 %, and all is fine again.

Where does that come from?

If I may hazard a guess, it probably has to do with these 2 settings:

Try changing the on-demand to something else (like throttled) and see if the problem persists …
‘Fast’ uses all the cpu cores & all needed memory

Okay, I disabled both and see what happens next

I was under the impression that these settings only affect locally stored files (when adding to the library), not streaming.

Just guessing, but it could be used also if you use ’ Headroom Management’ or any other such similar feature

Pay attention to CPU Usage

Apparently I guessed right:

# Audio Analysis
# Volume Leveling

Just checked it - Volume leveling works on Live Radio too:

Unfortunately, the issue still exists. Seems to be once every hour
“Headroom Management” I cannot find this setting.

click on the volume icon:

and to the middle wavy thingy:

also on the Device settings, check ‘volume leveling’

Every hour?

Not measured, but it feels like every hour.
And in my volume settings, everything is disabled.

Is your Roon Core running on Windows?
It sounds like there is some scheduled task or service (other than Roon) running eg antivirus

yes on Win 10, but all what’s not needed deactivated No Virus sw installed except win 10
When I use (again) R.O.C.K, will the on Windiws Core saved playlists work when my path to my NAS is like this:

Best way to figure out the problem: Open Task Manager on that PC, select the ‘Processes’ tab, sort by CPU and check what is running when you get high CPU usage .
eg:

now only 40%, but st. 90%+

That’s true, weird. No idea. I think I’ll switch to ROCK as OS back. Do you know, if the path to my NAS for the playlists, ROON ones, will stay?

Weird Why is it so high? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Even my Qnap (where I run Roon server) doesn’t go above 4-5% unless I enable the stuff mentioned earlier, or it scans the library

If you backup & restore I guess it should - haven’t tried it (yet).

[somehow I managed to mess up my replies]

Many thx! I’ll will install ROCK over the weekend
