Roon earlyaccess (build 1363) & Roon ARC (build 231) recent update showing major improvement!

As a frequent listener of Roon at home and with ARC outside of my home network I have seen major improvements with this latest update. Mainly, stability! Roon hasn’t crashed since last week and I’ve been listening a lot. I have a large local library - nearly 345K songs and don’t use the streaming services. Music stored on a NAS and server is on a Sonic Transporter i9. All hard ethernet wired.

The persistent issue for years has been after a while (a day or so) Roon starts to lag, runs very slow and then just automatically restarts. Sometimes when adding new music too. Also, Roon ARC acts the same way. Many times firing up ARC would make Roon Server crash.

All of this was fixed quickly with the frequent restarts but it never felt totally stable to me. But after this recent update, I’ve had no issues and I’ve imported several albums. I’ve grown used to things being a bit buggy but I’m happy to say it’s been bug free for at least a week now.

I was reading the “message from Roon founders” post and one of the comments mentioned Roon working offline which used to be the case before Roon 2.0. Someone said the Roon EA recent update includes this feature. But it’s not mentioned in the release notes?

I could see that making a possible improvement. Of course, my setup is full on network based but I’m just noticing major improvements. Anyone else having a similar experience? Just sharing my love and kudos to the developers helping with this.

No it’s not mentioned. Maybe they wanted to know if anyone noticed. It’s not entirely unusual to try things in pre-release software without pointing it out.

Understandable. I’m pointing it out now. Something changed and I’m quite happy with the results.

Dang. Roon Server finally bit it after a week plus. Restarted on its own. But this is a record! I’ll monitor (of course) to see the performance after this reboot…

Checking back in with more results since the latest update. All good! I’ve been playing Roon virtually non-stop for the last few days. It’s been completely stable. This includes ARC when I’m outside the home. This is a major improvement. In the past, I’d get random restarts after a day or so. I want to thank the Roon Developers for this recent release. Thanks and keep up the great work!

I did notice when I just tried to open ARC it crashed Roon Server. Rebooting now. Not a big deal as long as it happens more infrequently.

Did something happen with the new EA release? Roon Server is back to acting buggy. A couple reboots already today. When I open ARC it crashes Roon server and automatically reboots. This was working great for over a week and since yesterdays update its unstable again. Just letting you guys know.

Yeah, it’s disconnecting more. Still better than it was in the past, but build 1363 made it all run flawlessly. I hope the developers can dig in a bit and look at what may be the issue.

I’m on 1367 also. The previous version - 1363 - is where this post started. I’m just trying to eliminate starting a new thread. I should say this version (1367) is still pretty stable. Testing all day for any dropouts and will be adding lots of new music. I’ll update later.

Yeah, I’ve had a few disconnects. Hopefully the next EA release will address this.
