Love the extension! Not sure if the Roon API supports it but would it be possible to add an option to pick a bookmark? In that way you could have random tracks or albums played from a subset of your collection.
The API doesnāt support bookmarks. For shuffling selections you have to use the mechanisms provided by Roon. Unfortunately no album shuffle in this case
Thanks for this feature, I really have been looking for this! Now I can finally let go of LMS ;o)
Would it be possible to filter the randomness a little bit, like activate/deactivate genres?
Thereās no way to install this on ROCK, right?
No there is not.
No but a Pi running DietPi works great.
Iām a random radio user.
And i love it.
Iād like to make a feature request.
In the extension settings
you can choose a Zone and a Random Mode.
It would be great to exclude specific formats.
For example, iād like to exclude all multichannel albums from the random choice, as the given zone cannot play them (i mean, they are played after a roon core 2.0 conversion, that i want to avoid).
Bye
Itās sad that such a basic feature (automatic random queueing of full albums for playback) had to be covered by a third-party extension. Random Radio >>> Roon Radio.
@Jan_Koudijs Thank you for making the Roon experience much better for me everyday, you rock!
Unfortunately the Roon API doesnāt provide information about the format of tracks and albums.
Using this great extension for a while now Iāve only found one really annoying thing about it.
Iām frequently switching my playlist from one zone to another and when I do that with random radio enabled, playlist in the zone Iām leaving is filled with a new album and playback continues If I donāt pay attention and stop it.
Is there a chance to avoid that with a fix ?
Thank you for your work and this feature that is missing in Roon.
Iāve just noticed an unwanted behavior.
if i switch the audio zone (say from A to B) and on A zone the random radio is activated, thenā¦ the stream switch from A to B, but on A starts a new random stream. i think this is due to random radio extension.
The monitoring that takes place for the configured zones is pretty basic, meaning that it cannot determine if the queue became empty because it was cleared and the user wants something else played, or because it was transferred to another zone.
The only possible way to get this information available is if the zone transfer would be triggered from the extension. Technically this might be feasible, but currently I have no plans to implement this.
@Jan_Koudijs another great extension, many thanks.
It took me a few reads of the instructions to fully figure it out but Iām currently listening to this great Irish music album that I have never played in Roon before.
Iāve asked on and off over the years for an āIām feeling luckyā album choice and this performs this task.
Do you have a patreon or other way I can show my thanks and ābuy you a few beersā?

Hi @Sloop_John_B,
Thanks for letting me know that you like it, it is always nice to receive a message like yours.
No Patreon or other way to donate, mainly because I have no hosting or hardware costs. If this ever changes I will let you know
Let me call it, triggered by your question
You can now Buy Me a Coffee
Cheers Jan.
Your Roon extensions have really made a difference to my Roon experience. Pause and random album are used daily.
Have a few coffees on me !

Love that idea Jan, I have just bought you some coffeeās as well.
Thanks for all the great work you do
Any way to make this work within a playlist, or to limit what can be selected via the random function? Would love to randomize holiday albums only, for instance.
At first glance it seems possible to limit the random selection to a genre for both tracks and albums. This functionality has to be implemented and I canāt promise that this will be available before the holiday season
A shuffle for playlists is already provided by Roon. Anything specific that cannot be achieved with the standard functionality?
Thanks!
Roonās shuffle shuffles songs, not albums. Could also be useful for limiting genres or artists (shuffle Led Zeppelin lin albums only). My library is o eclectic, I need ways to control moods, but I like listening to whole albums.
