You can see it in the logs but easier to look at the signal path when it switches from normal track to one of the short ones. I could see it doing this on my classical album that’s got very short tracks and on the Beyoncé album. I use volume levelling but that’s all the DSP in my chain. But no way it should drop that low with my server it doesn’t register at all for regular tracks. It really shows an I/O issue from the extension with these tracks.
This is so intermittent that I am not sure whether its a version issue at this point.
I left it playing further and eventually it paused after 7 total hours. No obvious errors in ROON or RHEOS logs at the time - just stayed at the same tome point 7 minutes into a long track.
I will continue to experiment and see if I can identify.
Any logs around when you see a failure might help.
Thanks.
Really odd that its the short tracks.
I update roon to 2.0 build 1392 production.
I deployed 0.9.3-18 (fresh) as a single container (no roon extension manager) - same issues.
From the logs, looks like between songs it’s trying to play tunein - never set this up so no idea where it’s getting this.
It plays one song, I click next or select a different song in the playlist and it selects it but doesn’t start playing. I will download the logs and PM them to you.
Thank you.
That could be really helpful.
Tune in is a default for HEOS when it doesn’t know what to play.
All working fine for me - so frustrating!
rebooted all and running -18.
mixing it up during the day, back to one heos7 speaker in office…
- played an album - at the end it did not switch to roon radio but it had the next track picked
- started new album…playing… will update
Working on an update hopefully tonight.
Heloful inputs. I think my use cod fixed groups may have covered up some errors using single players…
0.9.3-19 Uploaded.
Please test have made several changes to try and address reported issues.
Thanks
downloaded, installed and will run tonight (sleep music)

While my daughter has really enjoyed the last few days of breakfast with Beyonce, I am pleased to report that this version appeared to be working correctly on my system with speaker groups, sort songs, and gapless. I played the whole Beyonce album from Qobuz without issue. I’ll keep testing things, but so far so good. Thanks so much for staying up late to sort this out!!
Played a classical composition from Qobuz (192/24) with several short parts. Also, bounced the song to different devices in the house while creating and destroying speaker groups. No issues.
try this one, theme of paganini always causes me issues with RHEOS, I am not at home so cant try it out.
Well nearly.
Fixed groups is having an issue. I know what it is but won’t get to it until this evening.
We can all chase the short tracks now and see who can break it first!
Again, thanks for being so patient.
Peter
P.S. I think I will never listen to Beyonce again … (not that I did before )
Played the Rachmininov concerto no issues through the first two movements (6 tracks). Gapless and no pausing.
The Rachmaninov disc is fine its the Paganini thats problematic as they are all short tracks and should be gapless but has never played as such via RHEOS.
0.9.3-20 Uploaded to test, latest and a new tag 0.9.3-20 (so that we can revert in the future if needed)
This addresses the issues discussed and my own issue of failure to play fixed zones.
Most importantly both Beyonce and Paganini play perfectly (and gapless) with this version on my system. Please let me know if this doesn’t work for you (and try to collect logs).
This has been quite a battle but I hope this will work …
As always your input has been invaluable.
Peter
Rachmininov, Paganini and Beyonce all working correctly on my system. Nice work @peter_richardson!!
Thanks Kent.
Still having some challenges with reliability of fixed groups switching here. Work to continue .
Let’s see hat happens on other systems.
Peter
0.9.4-0 Uploaded to test,latest and a new tag 0.9.4-0 **
- This improves fixed grouping and the deletion of fixed groups.
Sorry lots of issues here. Using Paganini as my tests
First it doesn’t switch input to heos if play is pushed whilst in standby, this is something that’s started with all v.9. It’s sticking on HDMI ARC and play is stopped. When i hit play again playback was all garbled like it was having sample rate clock locking issues. Restarted playback of the material solved this but skipped to next track before first had finished and it played gapless for two tracks only. It does play now which is better and back to how it was. Processing speed randomly does seem to drop on some but not all.
Play track on its own it’s fine. So something going on with your caching is affecting this.
Beyonce now plays but is not gapless. When your looking at signal path you can see it go off and back at track boundary where gapless don’t.
Tried with larger buffers no different.
