Roon is a product with excessive functionality that I simply do not need

Really? I am one of the users who would use folders almost exclusively with my library if I could.

One, many does not make. Anyway the point is moot 'cos it’s never going to happen.

And you can guarantee that?

Absolutely it’s been stated by roon that they will never have folder browsing under any circumstances

I heard similar claims before… Mostly from Apple.

And a better one

Figure of speech Mr. Literal. So there are two that “need” this feature  .

Two we know of. I can guarantee there are more.

This is a straw man. Roon is not designed for computer technology specialists, specifically so.

Just as there are many more who don’t care.

A vote is a vote is a vote.

If we had folder browsing, what folder would I look in for Tidal albums that I’ve added to my library?

No idea. I don’t add music I don’t own to my library, and for the music I own (which I call “my library”), I have my own folder layout.

Alright Rooners, let’s take a break and breathe. This thread is becoming a back and forth debate on an issue that has been discussed and clarified by Roon’s founders, ad nauseum. The thread itself is in violation of our community guidelines, see Megaphoning.

If you’ve decided to leave Roon and you have feedback to share regarding your decision we’re interested in hearing it. Tell us, we’ll listen and thank you. But, needlessly sharing it with the entirety of the forum, in an attempt for attention and argument, is likely to result in removal moving forward. Especially if the crux of your issue is that Roon doesn’t do what it’s consistently said that it won’t do.

Again, folder browsing doesn’t help you discover music in a way that’s exciting and different, and that’s what we’re interested in at Roon. We’ve added more tools than any other platform for interacting with the music you already own, and we highlight the connections among that music that brings it to life in a three-dimensional way that folder browsing will never accomplish.

Roon never wanted to resemble a list or spreadsheet. If you want folder browsing, lists, or spreadsheet like displays we’re not the right platform for you. No hard feelings, we hope you find something that aligns with those desires.

30 years ago when I started doing my current technical work my boss said he dictated his reports in his country house with his wife sitting there. If she didn’t understand something she’d stop him, or she would say “that makes sense!”. It’s something I’ve never forgotten. I did feel very sorry for his wife having to listen to this stuff, but I’ve always remembered the need to make the complex intelligible.

That is not the same as dumbing down.

The absolute worst is the person who says “believe me, I’m an expert”, and there are a few of those in audio, because if you then ask them to explain themselves they will either shout, lose their temper and certainly fail abysmally to explain anything.

As I said at the top of this thread, my technophobe wife is the acid test, and she took to Roon like a duck to water.

I remember going to an audio store in Harrow to see the Meridian Sooloos when it just came out. It was a completely original product at the time (2008 or 2009?) and the idea of tapping on an image of your favourite album was fantastic and rather exciting. I had an iPod at the time and at that stage it still had a menu system. The Sooloos system scrolled up and down and had a search feature. It was only for CD rips and I think the only reason why I didn’t buy it was because it was limited to 500gb memory.

Now we take icons for granted, but it was a big thing at the time. I remember it vividly, the system included the Lyngdorf Audio TDAI 2200, also quite novel at the time as it included DSP, and some Wilson Benesch speakers, which featured a carbon fibre shell.
