So I am using Roon with an Eversolo DMP-A6. I have an SSD with local files, and when it works, it works seamlessly. Roon server is running on a Mac Studio with latest versions of the software (2.0 build 1445). MacOS is on the latest GA (non beta version) 14.6.1. DMP-A6 is on latest firmware as well - 1.2.98
Every 24 hours or so, the Roon server loses connection to the Eversolo. However, during this period, I can still access the shared drive with other applications. As soon as I reboot the DMP-A6, the files are immediately available in Roon.
The Energy Saver settings are set to prevent sleeping for the computer and the drives. Wake for network access is also enabled.
Any thoughts on how I can solve this? No one is having a similar issue on the eversolo forums with other apps, so this seems to be a Roon issue, or a MacOS issue.
You haven’t given any network details. Can you check your router settings, is DHCP lease set to 24h for example? If it is, change it to something longer and see if anything changes.
Shouldn’t this be a support request?
Both machines have static IP addresses, and are connected via ethernet. Yeah this could be moved to support, but I thought since the DMP-A6 was so popular, I thought maybe someone had solved this.
Have you tried running your library directly on the Roon server? With the files sitting on the Eversolo - you are relying on their ability to implement a solid version of SMB file sharing. And it is also possible they have their networking “shut down to conserve power” or something simple like that - breaking that link.
Having the files directly attached to the Roon server also means any other device or endpoint is not relying on the Eversolo. BTW I have the Z8 DAC and love it but obviously has no internal storage. Maybe keep a second copy on the Eversolo as a backup or a library you can take with you if you head out of town.
Good suggestion and I think that will work. The odd thing is whenever I try to play the files from somewhere else, it works without issue.
It could be possible that it wakes up when the request is initiated.
I actually started on the Eversolo forums, and it didn’t seem that anyone else was having a similar issue. That being said the number of users using Roon and a DMP-A6 and on the forums is probably quite small.
I would like to sort this out if possible as I want to use the Eversolo as the music server which is part of the reason I bought it.
I will give it a try as that will give some insight as to if the MacOS Roon server is having an issue overall.
I am having the exact same problem. Roon on a MacMini M1 running the latest Sequoia OS, and an Eversolo DMO-A6 Gen2 on the same network, with all my music files stored in the Eversolo’s internal SSD. I realize this thread is old, but I haven’t seen any solution anywhere. Roon loses connection to the Eversolo through SMB sharing every 24 hours or so (hard for me to check exact frequency as I’m not always at home). The only way to reconnect is to restart the MacMini. I realize I can store my files locally in the Mini but I really would like to find a solution, rather than a workaround. @Trebz any luck since you started the thread?
I don’t have a technical answer for you, but I do have an eversolo with an SSD and my library is backed up to that SSD. I do NOT use that SSD as a roon storage location, though. I would imagine, as others have said, that connection wouldn’t be particularly reliable for roon.
Plus, you’re asking roon to find them on the eversolo SMB, run them through roon server (DSP/upsampling stuff, etc…), then circle back to the eversolo to actually play them. Seems like lots of potential for failure. (I might be completely wrong about this signal-path scenario, but it seems like how it would go.)
If you want to play those exact files from that location, bypass Roon and play them from the eversolo directly, using the eversolo app. Works great.
But if you want to use roon, I would definitely store those files somewhere else, directly attached to the roon server.
