Roon Nucleus experiencing slow response and playback delays (ref#1GDE9V)

What app are you having the slowness issue with?

· Roon

What kind of performance/speed issue are you experiencing?

· The app takes a long time to respond to commands

Please try to reboot your Roon Server

· No, the issue is still the same even immediately after a reboot

Please try to reboot your networking gear (Router/Switches/etc.)

· No, the issue is still the same even after a reboot

Is there any change in behavior if you try to navigate to Roon Settings -> Library and set both Background and On-Demand Audio Analysis to Throttled or Off?

· No, the issue is still the same

Does the issue happen on multiple Roon Remotes (controllers) or just one?

· Issue happens on multiple remotes

Router Domain Name System (DNS) change

· Updated to Google but did not see improvement

What is the operating system of your Roon Server host machine?

· Nucleus

Which model Nucleus do you have?

· Nucleus One

Timestamp of issue occurrences

· For the last few months

Describe the issue

Recently, my Roon Nucleus has become very slow and frequently fails to respond.

Specific issues include:

- A 10 to 20-second delay for the next song to start.
- A similar delay when trying to play a new song while another is already playing.
- The same behavior occurs on Roon bridges for both my Hegel H590 and WiiM Ultra. However when I play Tidal Connect (using WiiM) or Spotify connect, I do not see any lag. Note that Roon is connected to Tidal for music

I have already attempted the following troubleshooting steps without success:

- Restarted the unit.
- Reduced the library size.
- Replaced the network switch feeding the Nucleus.

For additional context, my Nucleus is hardwired to a network with speeds exceeding 500 Mbps. I also have a Samsung SSD installed with a few rarely played files.

Describe your network setup

I use Verizon Fios (500+ Mbps) with a Google Wifi mesh system utilizing Ethernet backhaul. In my audio room, the mesh node connects to a Netgear GS108 switch. My Roon Nucleus is hardwired to this switch and has a DHCP reservation to ensure a consistent IP address. I have updated the DNS server for the mesh to Google.

Hello @Rakesh_Nair

Welcome to the community, Rakesh!

Thank you for providing such a clear breakdown of your network and the troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken.

I’ve taken a look at the diagnostics from your Nucleus One, and it appears that a “Reinstall Operating System” command was recently triggered from the Web Administration interface. Because this process refreshes the core software, it also clears the previous log history.

We would like to check two things:

  1. Current Status: Since that reinstall, have you noticed any improvement in the 10-20 second delays, or is the performance still sluggish?
  2. New Diagnostics: If the issue is still present, please try to reproduce the lag (start a song or skip to the next) and note the exact date and time (timestamp) when it happens.

Once you provide a fresh timestamp, I can pull the current logs to see exactly where the bottleneck is occurring—whether it’s an issue with the Tidal handshake, a network hang between the Google Mesh nodes, or a local hardware delay.

Looking forward to your update!

Hi @Rakesh_Nair,

We wanted to quickly check in and see if you were able to run through the above - thank you! :folded_hands:
