Hi there,
I read that Roon can be installed on a Synology NAS (DS 415play) with DSM 7.1.1.-43962.
Found a SPK package here (ROONONNAS, downloaded all available packages, but non of the worked. Error “[…] not supported[…]”.
Searched but couldn’t find a solution.
Does someone knows why?
NAS has got a INTEL Atom CE5335, 1024 MB RAM and 4x3TB storage in a RAID 5 system.
I don’t know about the compatibility error (and the Atom is below spec but might work if you don’t have a large library and don’t demand DSP), but I doubt that 1 GB RAM will suffice to run Roon.
AFAIK is an Intel CPU (or compoatible) required with some extension that can be found in (mainstream) CPUs from around 10 years ago. I fear this old Atom processor is therefore incompatible (missing required CPU {processing} extension).
A list of current compatible Synology models:
PS: Compatible doesn’t necessarily mean a “good match”. What you need for Roon depends on the size of your library (as planned) and what you need for a NAS might be even more depending what else, besides running Roon Server, you want to do with it.
Thanks Jack,
there is no real need for using my NAS as ROON core, it sounded interesting and I could release one of my Intel NUC’s for some other stuff.
In fact, my NAS is not listed as compatible.
Right, I thought I had googled this CPU but didn’t notice that it showed me a different and much newer Atom with a similar model number. You are right, of course, this one is likely too old.
