That about sums it up. The iPad app shows ~ 600MB for the app and 8GB of data, while the iPad only shows the 600MB for app and virtually no data.
Why the difference?
Have you tried clearing the image cache under Settings → Setup menu on both and see if they start at the same size on both device?
I’d be curious to find out as well.

That did the trick. Not sure why that’s not under the library section of settings, where I was looking.
