Roon package not running on Synology DSM 7 after update (ref#DERALS)

Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.

· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.

Describe the issue

I am running on Synology NAS. After updating Roon to the latest version this morning, I can not run this package on my synology DSM 7:

Describe your network setup

router - ASUS RT-AX1800S, connecting to synology NAS DSM 918+ by cable.

Hello @Yasmina_Lee,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon support.

The Roon package for NAS devices is actually developed and supported by our community expert, @crieke. I am moving this thread to the Roon Software Discussion > QNAP/Synology NAS category and tagging him for visibility so he can assist you further.

If official Roon support involvement is required later on, please feel free to move the thread back to the Support category!

Just an FYI

How did you update Roon? What are your exact symptoms?

Is it maybe related to EA (early access) versions of roon server not running under DSM?

Had the same problem on a QNAP NAS, but moving to production software solved the issue.

Core Machine: Synology NAS DS918+

DSM Version: DSM 7.1.1 42962 update 9

Roon Package Version: 221117 (EarlyAccess)

Issue: After a recent update from Roon on iPad, the Roon Server package on Synology fails to stay running. In Package Center, it shows “Manually Stopped”. DSM Log Center reports “System successfully started” followed immediately by “System successfully stopped” without any specific error codes.

Observations from Logs:

  1. -noraatserver found: My RoonOnNAS.log shows ROON_DEBUG_ARGS: -noraatserver. I believe this is why my Cambridge streamer is missing.

  2. Silent Crash: RoonServer_log.txt ends abruptly during metadata updates without any error message, suggesting a process crash or system kill.

Any reason you are not on DSM 7.3.2-86009 Update 2?

I would 1) uninstall the Roon package in Package Manager, then 2) update DSM, then 3) reinstall the Roon on NAS package - NON early access release (https://roononnas.org/builds/Synology/RoonServer_Synology_DSM7_x86-64_20220216.spk), following the installation wizard to point to your music folder(s).

Then report back here.

Could you try deinstalling the EarlyAccess version and install production B1641 instead? This did the job for me (on QTS).

Some synology models only have update versions to 7.1.1 update 9.

Version 7.2 only runs on newer synology models.

Yes, but it can run; it just won’t update automatically.

It might be just fine for @Yasmina_Lee to just go back to the release version rather than Early Access, per @Arindal.
