Roon performance issues after recent system upgrades Rhein Z1 (ref#DML70P)

Describe the issue

For three years I have enjoyed using Roon problem free. However after the last couple of system upgrades the connection to my Roon Core (Rhein Z1 V2) has become unbearably slow.

Nothing has changed on my end. All my equipment (except one Blue Sound Power Node 2i) is connected through an ethernet in my home. My internet connection is not superfast (~30 MBps) but apparently good enough to stream movies etc. without any problem. That said, occasionally I get a message that my connection with Tidal is too slow to play a tune even though the internet speed is still the same as always, which I have found very strange too but not ascribed to Roon.

Right now every click in the Roon app on my Mac Studio desktop or iphone takes more than 10 sec minimum to respond which makes it practically unbearable to use Roon. Using the search function often leads to an endless churn.

Rebooting everything (internet modem, core, desktop computer, iphone etc.), as has been suggested as a solution by some on this forum, has not solved my issues.

Can you please let me know how I can get back to my previous good experiences with Roon? Is there a way that I can reload the old software version? I am getting pretty desperate now.

Describe your network setup

My ethernet is Cat-7. The internet router is Tp Link. My core is Rhein Z1 Silent Angel. All end equipment is from NAD. I amusing a Mac Studio and my iPhone as the user interfaces.

Hi @Jos_Brands,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write in and share your report. As it stands in your setup, we’re unfortunately not able to provide Roon support on the Rhein products. I feel it important to inform you that this server device you are using is unlicensed with Roon. Because of this, we’re not able to offer support as it’s unfortunately an unsupported device.

That said, there are others on community that may be able to provide additional troubleshooting steps for you. I’ve moved your thread over the Tinkering for this.

Thanks for your understanding, I am confident you’ll find additional resources from others in the community.

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for the swift feedback. I am actually a bit shocked because I was totally unaware that the Rhein is an unsupported device. I was recommended to use it as the core several years back. Has its status with Roon perhaps changed over time?

I noticed that Roon itself is going to put a server on the market, the so-called Nucleus One. Will that product also become available in Europe, or is it only for the US market?

With kind regards.

Nothings changed it was never supported or authorised to begin with. Roons server code cannot be distributed by 3rd parties unless sanctioned by Roon. Silent Angel never have done this.
