Roon Playlist improver feedback - specific to "Match to Library"

I have been a longtime promoter of having Roon improve its Playlist functionalities and have been patiently waiting for sufficient progress to be able to fix local library issues that have, over time, undergone a number of disk changes, either for insufficient local capacity appearing, or for gradual degradation of disk performance if not disk reliability.
I saw the Improver appear in 2024, and tried it, it was not working but I thought that given the probably large number of users with same root causes and same issues as mine, the youth issues of these Playlist fixtures would be quickly solved. But two years have passed…

This specific topic of matching playlist tracks to local library modifications has been part of discussions back in Summer 2024 but… as far as I can see, at least in the Mac OS world, it is still NOT WORKING.
There must be a bug somewhere.
For example, in one of my playlists, I have this playlist item for a local file : John Campbell track “One believer”, that is marked as Unavailable, and part of the targets of Improve/Match to Library on the playlist.

  • Yet when I ran that Match, it found nothing and the file (like all other similar cases) remained unavailable.
  • BUT… When I do a Roon search for John Campbell, and when I click on the Local library button, it narrows the search. Then I can directly see the album and the track in my library, with the location and path.

The picture below shows the two instances of the One Believer track. The one I just added that Roon found easily on my library, and the one that Improve/Matching could not improve.

So… why would the Roon search find it easily in one case and NOT find it when the Improver/Match is activated ? I don’t see how this could be a feature, therefore it is a bug.

Regards to Roon engineers for fixing this, it will be of great help for many, no doubt.
PS : the topic has also been posted in the Feedback section

Hey guys,

For users:

This topic should get some traction. If you too have the same issue, it would help pushing Roon developers to solve that issue.

For Roon developers :

It should a priori be simple : if the matching instances can be found by a Roon search in Roon local library, just plug in the same method into “Match to Library” and job done, correct ?

Best regards all,

CD

Unfortunately, it probably won’t help “pushing Roon developers to solve that issue” whilst this conversion is in Roon Software Discussion because this is not a forum catagory that is monitored my Roon staff.

If you want Developers to take notice, you should probably post in Feedback or Feedback > Feature Suggestions

Thanks Wade for this good piece of advice, I have just followed it.
Regards,
CD

Done, thanks again.
