Roon Rock network issues

Hi there! I am confused.

I have just bought my first NUC and installed ROCK.

The problem is the NUC (when placed at my preferred location) is not able to find my Hegel H190 Roon Ready device.

How the network is set up:

Internet modem from my provider is located outside my apartment (in the hallway storage).

The NUC is directly connected with an ethernet cable to the modem (in the hallway storage).

My TP-Link Deco Mesh (located in the living room) is directly connected using a long ethernet cable that runs through walls to that same modem in the hallway.

I connected a TP-Link powerline adapter (A) with an ethernet cable directly to my TP-Link Deco.

On the other side of my living room i plugged in the other powerline adapter (B) to receive the internet signal.

My Hegel H190 is connected using an ethernet cable to the powerline adapter (B).

——-

In my opinion everything is connected to the same network. But my Roon Core cannot find the Hegel.

Now, when i relocate the NUC to my living room and connect it to powerline adapter (B), which has 2 ports, my Roon Core will find the Hegel H190. That works fine! I noticed the Roon Core’s IP address changed when I moved the NUC from my storage to my living room. But only the last couple of numbers changed.

So, in theory i could place my NUC next to the Hegel in my living room, both connected to the powerline adapter.

But the whole idea of this exercise was to have the Roon Core outside my living room, because it is quite a loud machine imo. And i also need the space for other gear.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here? Or how I can fix this?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

To help diagnose, temporarily remove the powerline and use a long Ethernet cable. Does the server find the Hegel?

To add to what @Martin_Webster mentions.

You’re connecting your Roon Server to your ISPs box and are also connecting your Mesh system to the same ISP box, with your Hegel connected to a mesh node utilising power line adaptors.

Multiple subnets going on here I think.

Try if possible to put your ISP box (sounds like it’s in a router mode) into a modem state. Connect it to your TP-Link Mesh system. Then connect your Roon server to the primary node. Try connecting your Hegel to the same mesh node using Ethernet.

I cannot recommend powerline adaptors in a Roon setup. If possible, install Ethernet between your mesh nodes for a wired backhaul.

Hope this helps.

Hi Yorick I seem to remember that the Deco created a 10.x.x.x I network for devices behind its mesh network. So technically it’s on a different network to the main router.

I believe that is likely to be your problem and the Room server needs to be moved onto the Deco Mesh network. Or add an additional deco Mesh device near where you want to put the Roon server
