Hello
Is it possible to connect several ssd drives to Roon Rock to store music?
Yes it’s possible to connect multiple drives as long as you select each one as a storage location in settings:storage.
However if there are ANY duplicate tracks/albums on the separate drives you will get the duplicate tracks/ albums loaded by Roon into your library.
I presume this is via USB?
I guess you could do one internal (it it’s a taller NUC) and up to three external USB drives. At some point, moving music files to something like a Synology NAS starts to make more sense. That said, l realize that Roon Labs generally recommends local over network for music files.
I installed the rock on a regular PC with a large case, it is only intended to run Roon rock so there is no problem of space. I have always preferred local over network, you can clearly hear that it sounds better. The thing is that i have several SSD drives with music and I saw that the rock detect only one of them.
That is normal. ROCK is written for the Intel NUC so can only accommodate one storage drive. The only way to make this work is to hook them up via USB.
I assume your intention is to connect them each time separately- one connected and the others disconnected and then after they are all set to connect them together?
Nope - @AceRimmer was thinking about the situation for an Intel NUC: one internal drive and then external USB drives.
As has been said ROCK (actually, Roon OS) is built to support Intel NUCs: one internal drive and USB drives.
Installing ROCK on a PC with multiple internal drives is not a supported configuration.
The newer Nucs have a m.2 port for a ssd and a Sata poort for a extra ssd so if he means that then yes. It would be possible.
We are talking about the drives to hold music files as I understand it - and that means the internal SATA drive and USB drives.
The m.2 SSD is used purely for Roon OS and the Roon application.
What about 2 or 3 SSD Sata drives for music?
That will not work internally. You have to use USB for any more than one drive. And it is quite possible to mount them internally but connect to USB. You just have to be creative.
The newer NUCs have two internal M2 slots plus SATA (tall NUCs) plus USB.
Mind that one is a “normal” M2 slot (2280) and the other a short one (2242).
Hi Guys,
has there been any update since the last discussion. I am using Roon ROCK with one internal M2 for the OS and one internal M2 for the music. Another M2 is connected via adapter to the internal USB port.
Any possibiltiy to use the 3rd M2 via a PCI adapter instead?
Regards, Ralf
