Roon Security update 31 May [Update Complete]

Given the majority of Roon people are US based, I would say it will be later in the day.
I would see whether Win7 devices are working tomorrow.

It’s Y2K all over agai, just 21.5 years on - will it still work tomorrow!

It’s no fun being a second class citizen!

Honestly, those still running Windows 7 or 8 don’t need to worry about any 3rd party security updates. :scream:

So 31st May has gone, and Roon Remote operating on a Win7 machine, is working fine.

Was the Security update applied? Did the Registry settings work?

We’ll be doing the update later today, I’ll follow up here when it’s complete.

ok, so my Roon Remote on Win7 is still accessing Roon servers to obtain Album/Artist images, reviews, and check version information.

Seems the Registry changes for Internet Services, WinHTTP communications and the SCHANNEL, where TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 is not “disabled by default, seem to be in place and allowing secure application communications with the Roon servers in their Cloud environment.

Actually, from what I can tell, no changes were needed to ensure compatibility. My Win7 laptop that I left unmodified is still working fine as a Roon remote. This whole thing may have been much ado about nothing.

So “Let me be that I am and seek not to alter me.”
