Roon Server macOS dmg Installer/Download

Can anyone refer me to where I am able to download the RoonServer.dmg file for macOS?

It’s not here - Roon - Downloads - and I can’t find it anywhere else on the roon.app websites.

Clicking this link should download the .dmg file:

Also have a read here:

It’s there, and called Roon.dmg. For a year or so, there’s been a single installer for Roon Core plus the desktop app.

That is a link to download the desktop application; not Roon Server. If one scrolls down the download page, you see options to download Roon, Roon Remote, Roon ARC, etc. but there is no longer Roon Server?

Why isn’t this addressed anywhere in the Roon Labs Help Center? It described what Roon Server is, but it doesn’t explain how to install it? The “download Roon Server” link refers to “All Roon downloads”, which don’t contain anything re: Roon Server.

In the past, I used to able to download either Roon, Roon Remote, Roon Server, etc. as standalone .dmg files for macOS.

As I said earlier, it changed, and this was described in the release notes.

Moreover, the link isn’t the desktop app; it includes Roon Server, too.

Ok. Following your Roon Server link - which goes here - https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/roon-server#The_Launch_at_startup_option - there is another link there to “Download Roon/Roon Server…”. The link goes here - Roon - Downloads - where there is no option to download Roon Server.

Re: release notes, I don’t see them anywhere?

Maybe this will help: I have a brand new MacMini and need to install ROON SERVER. How do I do that and/or where are the instrucitons on how to install ROON SERVER?

I’m glad I have an archived version of the RoonServer.dmg from some time ago…

It is. Right in the document that describes the different software packages for download:

And there is also a document that describes the deprecation of the “Roon Core” terminology and it’s consequences:

I agree, probably not what users in search for a separate Roon Server download may stumble upon.

There is a separate section just for them on the forum here: Software Release Notes
The specific Release Note others referred to in this thread is most-likely this one:

PS: There is a sentence in the second document that currently reads: “Wherever you run Roon Server, you can configure and control your setup by installing Roon on Windows or Mac, or by installing Roon Remote on iOS and Android.
So the second part of the sentence has now become wrong as “Roon Remote” is no more:

So should now be: “Wherever you run Roon Server, you can configure and control your setup by installing Roon on Windows, Mac, iOS or Android.
The download page also still mentions “Roon Remote”:

I’m really struggling to understand the issue here. You simply need to download Roon.dmg from the links posted, and install this. It includes Roon Server, which is a separate program.

You can enable a forum notification for this forum category (top right on the linked page) so that you get notified every time there is a new post, i.e. a new release.

The release in question with the packaging change is this:

There is one package to install. It installs the Roon Server and it configures it to autostart Roon Server. It also installs the Roon control app. Don’t start the Roon app and you are running Roon Server

Roon server is inside Roon app (Show package Contents) - you can Make Alias on desktop

That has changed. As mentioned, the download is now 1 install program that installs BOTH softwares, Roon GUI Client and RoonServer.

Should the documentation be updated and harmonized everywhere? Yes, I agree. Because it can get confusing.

Thank you. This (now) makes sense to me (using Show Package Contents…). Is that (the fact that the app is buried within the Roon app itself), itemized in any release notes, etc. anywhere?

Strange that I don’t think it is explicitly stated anywhere on the Roon website that in order to install Roon Server you must download and install Roon.

## Ready to set up Roon Server?

For Mac/Windows users: you can download Roon/Roon Server from our website here.

I don’t think so and it should be.

It’s indeed strange because the page where it’s stated was posted twice

The above just made me think there would be a packaged Roon/RoonServer.dmg file (i.e., that the packaged version wouldn’t just be called “Roon”).

In the macOS, when you download Roon.dmg and open it, all you see is an icon for the application that you drag to the/your local Applications folder. Clicking on that file in Applications launches the Roon application itself (like it runs on all my other devices) with no mention of Roon Server, which is now hidden in the application’s “packaged contents”.

Maybe I’m missing an install prompt of some kind as Roon Server was already installed?

In any event, it’s sorted now. ../

I.e., you should automatically have it in the menu bar like here:

As described in:

I do agree, as I said, that it should be documented that the Roon Server launcher is accessible in the Roon app’s package content. Just in case someone needs to start it at a later time.

However, the following is documented - I am just not entirely sure what exactly it means  because I am not running Roon Server on my Mac. Maybe there is some other way to start Roon Server from within the Roon app?

If you’re seeing an error telling you Roon Server is not running, there are some simple troubleshooting steps you can try.

Click “Start Roon Server”

If you run Roon Server on Windows or Mac, you may see a “Start Roon Server” button, which will start the process if it’s not already running.

From:

I think this has been hashed out thoroughly now. But as others have said Roon Server is included in the “main” Roon download now. Yes, I agree they could have made it a little more obvious but, it is what it is.

Just download the one from the link on the screen I posted and move on with enjoying the music.
The several links to how to set it up will help guide you through getting the server running.
