Roon shows MQA instead of FLAC

I always like when people say about cars “It’s just like a Rolls Royce” When clearly it isn’t but they need to make the claim. They benchmark the best but always come up inferior.

Interesting to hear about all the in depth AB testing and comparison to masters here. If MQA is so bad, why emulate…?

If the distortion is inaudible and it sounds fantastic, what’s not to like!

Good question. Audiophiledom is very often about fads. Remember the green pen and CD’s? Slow roll off, low “ringing” high IM filtering schemes have been around for a while. Charles Hanson of Ayer liked them - his products used them. He decidedly did not like the “end to end” proprietary DRM scheme of MQA however. He also understood and explained to his customers what their pros and cons were. Bob S does not - he claims something new.

Oh, I see.
That explains everything.
Thank you.

Yep Ayre has had the MQA/Merdian like filter for years. It works well with the Sabre chips to take the edge off and Charlies output stage is great. A surpurb option for the MQA sound without the extra baggage and licensing and control.

The original question in this thread has been answered long ago and it has become another vehicle for general MQA discussion. In the interests of keeping such discussion in a confined area where those who are happy to carry on their lives without being exposed to it can do so in peace Mods have put on a 24 hour timer to close this thread.
