VPNs can sometimes disrupt Roon’s connections by altering network routes, blocking certain ports, or increasing latency.
While the use of VPNs falls outside the scope of official support, not to worry—we do have a dedicated space for community-driven troubleshooting in the Tinkering category, where other users may have experience with similar setups.
That said, we can offer a few basic troubleshooting steps that may help:
Try split tunneling: NordVPN has a split tunneling feature that allows you to exclude certain apps from the VPN. Try adding Roon and RoonServer to the exclusion list so they can connect directly.
Test out different DNS servers: Roon works best with reliable DNS services like Google DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1). If NordVPN is enforcing different DNS settings, consider manually setting a preferred DNS on your router or device.
