Roon suddenly got a lot faster and more usable?

So my setup with about 200k Qobuz tracks struggled with speed for browsing and search which got a lot worse lately. I posted a couple of times regarding the issue, but I have noticed that in the past week or so things suddenly started to work very smoothly and fast. I have made no change to my network or setup, and AFAICT there hasn’t been a Roon software update. This makes me think there was an issue fixed on Roon servers or on Qobuz? Perhaps just more cloud capacity is added?

Anyone else noticing a radical change in speed and usability?

Very interesting.

Edit: Hmm, I never had a real problem, but it does feel noticeably snappier right now.

Edit 2: E.g., generally the loading time of My Albums, which used to take maybe a second and now is practically instant. Or loading the info of a single album, which used to show grey bars for maybe two seconds until the album review appeared, which now is less than one.

Edit 3: This is all compared to recent days without any client-side changes whatsoever. YMMV

Yes, even my 192khz files are all playing. Shocker and fingers crossed

Roon 2.0 search results combined local and cloud database, if the Roon Cloud responsed slow can drag your machine search performance.

No… I’ve been experiencing the opposite since the last update.

1353 was bad… then they found the memory leak which meant you had to restart the machine every day or so. They fixed it and for a while it was ok again and since the last update I tend to see the spinning Roon logo as I wait for data to arrive from the servers… Home Screen, genres and missing thumbnails. It’s like a rollercoaster swinging from ok to the UI moving like treacle. Not a happy user at the moment :rage:

Edit… I’m using. Roon Rock NUC i5 8gb ram over a cat6a and fibre Ubiquiti UDM Pro network with 250mb down and 35up. Qobuz and Auralic LDS direct are as fast as you like. Just the Roon that’s being Jekyll and Hyde at the moment

yeah I also go to album pages etc. instantly. even adding new albums doesnt seem to bring the performance down anymore, which was almost always the case. fingers crossed stays like this; It’s so joyful when it works well.

Adding albums from Qobuz is the one performance thing I occasionally found annoying. (Edit: The time it takes was always very variable). It’s now taking 15 seconds which isn’t great. Not sure if it changed though.

Edit: Correction, it took 15 seconds each for the first two I tried before posting. Then I tried more and it took 5 seconds, 3 seconds, 2 seconds and 11 seconds. So still quite some variability, but I guess faster than usual in the best case. I wasn’t doing anything else on the server

Maybe Harman paid for some new servers!

Funnily, I already wanted to report that roon got slower in recent days, especially starting streams came with a delay.

But today Roon is as snappy and fast as I have never experienced it since I own this machine. Albums show up instantly, streams start a minimum of delay and lists of artists as well as composer appear immediately, despite from me having more tracks in my core library. Maybe cleaning up my library be freeing it from problematic albums has contributed to that.

Did roon give any comments about changing the system?

And here i thought by configuring my cache drives correctly on my NAS was the issue. Silly me!

My system components updated to build 1362 (EA) automatically and I have the feeling roon improved even more in terms of smooth operation. Especially album view is almost instantaneous no matter from where you open one, composition, track and artist listings have also improved. Artist´s bio and their composition lists still take some seconds to be compiled but that might be a side effect of my library. Search is still a bit depending on the keywords but most of queries are reactive.

Thank you @ roon team!

Agree, I am not 100% sure because it was already snappy but if anything the new EA build might have made it even better
