rooWatch - Smart control for Roon using Apple Watch and Siri

Just wanted to report that I am still having issues with v1.7 on watchOS 10.0. It tries to connect but fails. I restarted rooExtend and reinstalled the app on my Apple Watch Ultra.

Actually, it’s possible I still have watchOS 10 beta installed. :grimacing: I’ll run an update and report back…

Yes, after updating to the production release or watchOS, works as advertised!

I have not been able to use RooWatch for a few months now. I deleted the app from my watch and cannot reinstall on watch as it does not show as an available app from the setup menu on my phone. When I log into the app store via my phone it shows the app updated and purchased. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Running current IOS on all devices

Install rooWatch directly from the Apple Watch AppStore.

It will not allow me to reinstall.

Install using the Apple Watch, not the iPhone.

Klaus, you have saved the day again. Don’t think I would have ever figured it out. Thanks so much!

I tried to reinstall from the watch too and it wasn’t showing up in search but I searched for roon and then managed to find down a couple of screens

Of course now I try to find it and it shows up

No problem. I also remember that the app could be installed from the iPhone app store previously, but Apple changed that - at least for standalone watch applications.

Yes, i did, i see a speedup (after restarting the app), but it quickly goes away until I restart it again (the next day or so).

My licence key does not work, I have recently renewed for another year but code doesn’t work. The original trial licence key I purchased works temporarily but drops out and have to put it back in daily.

My license key does not work. Can you please help @DrCWO ?

I’m loving RooWatch. This is a game changer for me in convenience. I like to move around the house with Beyerdynamic headphones hooked up to a DAP, and love that I can easily mute the music to interact with my wife, and also to easily adjust volume and skip tracks.

I have no idea of the technology, but would love if you could somehow implement a VPN solution into RooExtend that would allow me to run Roon iOS and Mac endpoints, and use RooWatch when I’m at the cottage on the weekends.

I have no idea how to do it :cold_sweat:

Using a VPN between MAC and your local home Router allows you to run Roon on the Mac accessing your Roon Core at home. I did this with success using ZeroTier | Global Area Networking. This only works with MAC not with iPad as iOSs did not allow routing of broadcasts to the VPN so the iPad cannot be used as Roon Endpoint any more :cold_sweat:

Bad thing is that in your case VPN ends INSIDE your MAC iand not inside the Router of the Cottage!
Get two routers that are able to establish a VPN from Router to Router so you will have YOUR extended private network in your cottage. Doing this rooWatch will work.

Thanks for responding!
I tried a similar setup of using Tailscale to create a subnet on my Mac, which allowed me to see my Roon core in Roon Remote when outside the home network, but it couldn’t find my iPhone as an end point, so it wasn’t useful/working setup.

I was musing about somehow Tailscale or something similar being baked into RoonExtend as a subnet, and somehow having the iOS endpoint fixed. :slightly_smiling_face:

A working solution can only be achieved with a VPN inside the router so you have your hope network with the same IP-Numbers also in your cottage. It’s nothin I can do, sorry :cold_sweat:

OK, thanks! Unfortunately, my provider – provided router doesn’t support internal VPN.

Based on my experience this is not technically achievable with any reliability. It’s a kobayashi maru, filled with heartache and grief.

I made it with Zerotier and it worked fine with my MAC. I can start Roon on it and playbck from my remote Roon Core.

Zerotier has to be installed on my Roon Core and on the Mac.

I never tried with VPN from Router to Router as mine doesn’t offer this opportunity :cold_sweat:
I think only enterprise routers can do that…
