Ropieee Configuration: differentiating between when to use an RPI 4 vs RPI 5

I cannot find any documentation that indicates how an RPI 5 would benefit more than the RPI 4; e.g., I know that the 4 is superior to the 3+ due to a more complete USB implementation. However, given the basic functionality of Ropieee, I do not see any benefits to using the 5 over the 4.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,
-Steve

Probably not missing anything, and it seems RoPieee supports both. If anything, the 4 should be more stable as it’s been around longer, but I have no practical experience with it; I think mine are all 3.

Hi @steve_smith1 ,

With respect to our purpose, playing audio, there is no benefit from the 4 over the 5. It’s simple as that: the 5 is more powerful, but the 4 was already ‘overpowered’ for its purpose. RoPieee even downclocks the Pi 5 a bit.

And yeah, there are some technical computer-related things that are better than the Pi4, but not of interest for our purpose

So if you’ve got a 4: that’s perfectly fine: there’s no need whatsoever to upgrade to the 5.

Thanks

Thanks @spockfish.
Thank you for this superb “hobby”. I love the software; I stepped away from it a few years ago just after the 4 came out, however, now I have a need to set up a couple of high quality hp listening stations and I think this will be perfect.
BTW; count me in as a strong advocate of streaming over ethernet as you suggest, reliable and quiet.
