Might not be just coincidence though.
Have you read this from Harry.
Might be some stuff going on that’s out of your control even though this seems to be mostly about WiFi but you never know.
No this has nothing to do with WPA3.
Thought I would close this out - today I re-flashed the nodes that were “acting up” with the latest version and all is good now. Thanks to Harry and everyone else.
Hi - still having WiFi issues with one of my RPi4 B’s. All my nodes are now on latest firmware version. A different node from the one mentioned above just keeps disappearing from WiFi. Feedback sent - 42ff2f4489318853. Thanks @spockfish .
The endpoint is connecting over WPA3: which is problematic. In RoPieee’s next release the support for WPA3 is going to be removed for onboard wifi interfaces (see other post).
A few things you can do:
- optionally set the WPA support on the router side to WPA2.
- connect to a WiFi interface that is WPA2.
- use an external dongle instead of the onboard wifi.
Now, there is a chance the network you’re connecting to is capable of doing WPA2/3, in which case current RoPieee takes the highest one: WPA3. In that case it will ‘automagically’ connect over WPA2 with RoPieee’s next update.
Hope this clarifies it a bit.
thanks
Do I understand correctly that in the new version, RoPieee will detect that the Router provides WPA2 and WPA3, and Ropieee will choose WPA2 encryption, than will connect to device?
My Router have option with mix mode WPA2/3.
Yes, that’s how it works.
It will be work. Right now stable version can’t take wpa2 from mixed mode wpa2/3.
That’s because it supports WPA3, and always takes the highest level (== WPA3). When the WPA3 support is not there anymore it will automatically fall back to WPA2.
Thanks for the response. SO - which option should I select for my WiFi setup? RIght now, I am using WPA2/WPA3-Personal. Thanks very much.
For now I suggest you choose WPA/WPA2-Personal.
When the next release is out you can set it back to WPA2/WPA3-Personal.
Thanks
Thank you for the info, @spockfish .
Decided ro run ALL nodes with ethernet. I’ve used both MoCA and WiFi access points to stop using the built-in Pi WiFi. All good now. I have no desire to fall back to WPA2.
