Hello Harry,
Firstly, I must thank you for this wonderful software. I have used it for 2 months and love it. The only drawback is that when I using UPnP/DLNA streaming with Minimserver, I can’t play a playlist, and need to manual choose a new music file when the previous one ends. So I would like to ask a humble request if you could implement an OpenHome on RopieeeXL?
Best regards,
Nicolas
Hi @spockfish - really enjoying this software. I will send a donation next few days!
I have two issues I would like some help with is possible.
When using A+ over SPDIF to my Hugo 2 DAC I cannot stream DSD as I believe I need to be able to set it to DSD over DOP. Can this be set in RopieeeXL? As A+ has no option.
Second issue is when trying to use AirPlay I just get this:
Any ideas? I can stream to the device from the same mac mini using Roon and A+ - just not with AirPlay.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the dumb question… but what is ‘A+’?
No stupid questions. My mistake for abbreviating.
Audirvana Plus.
Hello @spockfish,
first many thanks for introducing RoPieeeXL. I really wanted to have a Spotify connection. I have changed my Pi3+ to Pi4 now and the installation of XL was very easy. I use the Pi4 with the 7" display and a Lampizator DAC. Now I have 2 problems since I upgraded to XL.
The screen shows the first song I started to play after a reboot but do stick on that when the next song is played. It does not change. When i restart the roon extension it shows the correct song information again for this one song and does not update again.
when I try to connect via Spotify i can see the RoPieeeXL in the device list on every! Spotify App but is is always greyed out and tells me it is not able to play the song on the XL. Of course when I want to play via Spotify I dont play a song in Roon. Maybe Roon does not realease the connection to the XL?
I hope you can help me with these issues.
Best regards
Peter
Hi Peter,
For the screen issue I suggest you restart your Roon server and see if that helps.
With spotify: I’ve never seen it like that (the greyed out I mean). Is this also happening when you restart the unit and don’t play anything with Roon but directly with Spotify?
If that’s still the case can you then send me feedback? You can find that option on the ‘advanced’ tab in the web ui.
Thanks
Hi Harry,
Yes this also happens directly after the reboot. I just sent the feedback: db1939a80a297a12
Thanks
The restart helped Funny IT, stop and run again and everything is fine again… at least the issue with the screen
Ok. And are you then using DLNA as protocol I pressume?
If you’re using SPDIF then for sure only DoP is going to work.
But (I’m not familiar with Audirvana) shouldn’t this be configurable from Audirvana?
Hi! Yes - DLNA is the protocol being used. I agree this should be configurable in the Audirvana software. I will contact the developers there. Thanks for your help.
Any idea what could be preventing AirPlay to work for me?
I think I’m missing something. Do I need to use an external DAC for RAT?
I wanted to evaluate the software using the Pi’s built in 3.5mm jack but the device is only showing up as an Airplay Device but not a Roon endpoint in Roon.
You can’t use Roon the inbuilt jack on the pi it’s digital only as its awful. Ropieee will only work with a usb dac or and attachéd hat for Roon.
@Simon_Arnold3 Thanks… I guess it’s time for me to hunt for a DAC.
There are plenty to choose from.
Hi!
Here is a response I got from the developer of Audirvana.
DSD over PCM has been defined because there was no way on macOS to send DSD data other than using this trick.
But when sending audio to a network player, there is the ability to send real raw DSD data (DSDIFF).
The UPnP standard allows this, and this is what is used by all the network players that are DSD capable.
Why does then the Allo DigiOne does not implement true DSD handling, and relies on DSD over PCM and its issues (like PCM <=> DSD tricky transitions, strong risk of losing the signal (low white noise) if any digital volume control is in the loop, …) ?
I just upgraded to RopieeXL. I wanted to have Airplay capability, so I can listen to podcasts and stuff on my stereo setup.
I am using an Allo DigiOne Signature, connected to a Schiit Modi.
When I first enabled the Airplay function, I couldn’t get any volume. I then switched the Ropiee Airplay settings to:
Volume Control: Enabled.
Still no volume. So, I switched the setting to:
Audio Output: HAT
Now, I am getting volume. Is this to be expected? I’ve never had to make many adjustments to settings within Ropiee before.
Hi Harry,
Just an FYI in the interests of sound quality - the digital signal, using spotify connect to a usb dac, is clipping at 100% vol. I believe by around 0.1-0.5db.
Sounded reealy bad when I had it going through a miniDSP SHD. Doesnt sound so bad through an rme DAC but i believe there is more headroom in there.
Otherwise, the software works a dream for me and im loving it - just running the spotify volume 1 click back from 100%.
Just installed XL on a brand new Pi 4. Works fine until I pull the CAT5 off, then nothing. Yes, wifi is set up on the 4. Also, no mention anywhere on the GUI page about Roon. No HATS used, just wanting to stream out of the on board USB.
Any thoughts?
So:
is it working with cable?
What do you mean with ‘Also, no mention anywhere on the GUI page about Roon.’
