Unique for each person as I have gotten neither of those yet.

I’m in a group that gets the same one every day and the ratings get averaged out.

I came across this clip recently where Paul McGowan of PS Audio talks about the most famous audiophile recording in his opinion. It’s ’Jazz At the Pawnshop’ which I hadn’t heard of.

Interested in other folks favourites.

Came across this many years ago and own it on 30th anniversary SACD. The folklore and stories around the how and why and who of the recording is probably more interesting than the music itself. It truly is a right people, right time, right place all by coincidence recording. But, the music is very enjoyable as well.

It also has been released on almost every format you can think of since 1976. Here is a little writeup of how it was recorded. https://audiophilemusic.io/portfolio/jazz-at-the-pawnshop-sacd-2001-fim-audiophile-music/

And the Discogs lists all the catalog numbers for every release… including multiple LP packaging, 1/4" tape, minidisc, HDCD, XRCD, SACD, etc. etc. Looks like 68 different versions released over the years.

Jazz at the Pawnshop was played forward and backwards together with Jennifer Warnes Famous Blue Raincoat in German HiFi magazines 30 years ago.

One more thing on Bandcamp if you are into Americana, Steve Earle, The Pernice Brothers, The Wild Feathers.
New West records are doing a $100 subscription where you get a shedload of their back catalogue and everything they release for the year of your subscription. This includes an upcoming Richard Thompson album.

Love Steve Earle and I have several Wild Feathers albums.

Further to the discussion, these were the albums I listened to:

Dorothy Ashby - The Rubiyaat of Dorothy Ashby
O’Donel Levy - Breeding of Mind

I would reccomend the cover of Never Can Say Goodbye on the latter. Particularly good bass by Eric Ward (according to Wikipedia).

Also I heard Scream and Dance from this forthcoming compilation on the radio:

The album isn’t released yet, so not on Qobuz or Roon, but I am looking forward to it. In fact I just ordered the limited edition vinyl, which costs nearly as much again for shipping to Australia. So that will be something to brighten up a winters July.

Trading one’s wife for a new car—I dunno where you live, but in these parts, that will get you canceled.

Couldn’t get a good deal, too high mileage and bodywork heavily worn😉

Some people just don’t appreciate the concept of “well broken-in”.

I do, though. I’ve often thought that the “ancient grease, leather and dust” vintage sports car scent would make a killer cologne for the right sort of person. It might attract the right sort, too.
