Great to see everyone as always! @Rugby do rest-up! I will not be at the meet next week unless I drop in live from the event I’m sponsoring. I think I used the phrase “more busy than productive these days” and @Sloop_John_B called me a “busy fool” and, honestly, he’s not wrong. Starting a business seems to be a bit of that right now. But, I digress… Here’s your summary:

DSD, 1-bit, PDM, HQPlayer 6.0 and it’s new playback filters, redbook brickwall filters… a design decision that significantly influences your DAC… well, You kind of needed to be there. Sometimes we jump down the rabbit hole.

We talked AI, its relationship to music discovery, playlist creation, and general ick that it may be doing in the future. Some follow-ups from that discussion…

Was 1 million taps really the goldilocks for Chord? Or just a limitation of the available FPGAs at the time? Evidence: Quartet - Chord Electronics Ltd (which uses 5 Xilinx FPGAs to get to “a staggering 4 million taps”). Of course, those of us using HQPlayer have been at this number or well beyond for a while. Do taps matter? How many you got? This discussion tapped out pretty quickly (pun intended). But, we still think the one person on the chat who does own an M-Scaler needs to upgrade and report back.

Then we talked music… yes the music we’re listening to… or the music we’re going to go see.. or have seen… here are the links in no particular order:

Johnny Wheels & The Swamp Donkeys

…and… we wrapped with me providing a link to the Podcast episode where I discussed the event with the promotors that will prevent me from being at the meet next week. Message me if you want that link as I won’t use this platform for direct advertising something I’ve produced.

See you next week (well, not me)! and thanks for the great conversations everyone!

Hi Everyone, the time will be a little later targetting 3:30 as I have a House Showing which ends at 3 and I need time to get home and set things up.

I’m going to try and join you live from a festival today. We’ll see how that goes.

Won’t make it today. Have a good meet up and I’ll see you all next week.

You too. Sorry guys got another showing and won’t be available. Sad face. Next wek

Congrats on the showings

I’d host as alt but can’t from where I am today. Happy Roon’ing all.

Hi all,

Sorry about the last minute stuff yesterday. As mentioned I am in the middle of selling my house, downsizing and stuff and the showings started this Thursday. I had 5 showings yesterday that also scheduled yesterday, whew. That’s 10 in the first three days.

II do have a music choice for the past week to share.. @Sloop_John_B I am interested to hear your opinion on it.

Enjoying the Rory tribute album, thanks for the heads up.

It has however thrown up a strange anomaly that I haven’t come across before. Roon wouldn’t play bad penny for me it skipped it so I went to the Qobuz app and played bad penny and it started coming through my iPhone speakers no problem. When I chose to use the Qobuz connect it wouldn’t play. (impossible to play as an error occurred in Qobuz language). It’s a strange one you think if it could play to the iPhone speaker it could play through Qobuz connect. (or maybe you’ll be able to tell me the reasons why this might not be so.?)

hope to catch up tonight – should’ve been in Brussell’s with my daughter and granddaughters but we had to vacate a European heat wave to the milder version of it which we get in the island of Ireland. (100°F in Brussels at one stage Dublin a still very hot to me 86°F).

Busy as usual I am afraid but the sad news about Killdozer was shared this morning from CrystalGypsy.

That is so sad to hear.

I’ve been “on the Internet” for 30+ years (40+ now?). The hardiest thing for me to deal with related to that is losing people I never got to meet in real life. It started as an early teenager via chat rooms and IRC. There is a very strange feeling I get when someone I know will only ever be known to me as bits. An end-to-end meeting of bits through to the news of their passing as bits. It really gets to me. Thank you for bringing this link into this thread @AceRimmer

@Rugby if it’s ok, I’d like to say a couple things about our friend today during the meeting.

No problem IP. I understand what you mean. I’ve lost people who I’ve spent hundreds of hours with in game, but, had never met or even video chatted.

Hi Everyone,

As usual, our chats revolve around Roon, other hardware/software audio topics, or just music and the enjoyment of listening.

Also, If you are having an issue with Roon, or, hardware or network setups, drop by, let us know and we will try and help! Or if you have a question about how ‘things work’, feel free to drop by and ask.

Please keep in mind, everyone here is a fellow user like yourself; so this is NOT an official Roon chat.

Enjoyed listening to your playlist @andybob helped by the fact that my iPad had died so I wasn’t actually looking at the tracks so no preconceptions whilst listening.

In the spirit of answer songs I made a playlist of songs I thought of whilst listening to yours as well as a few I mentioned last week. I kept it to just about the hour.

The Aretha song is the mono version which has a certain oomph that the stereo version lacks IMNSHO.

Hope to catch you all later.
