After many years of FiberOptic GB internet, i find myself moving to a rural area with no internet providers except satellite (Starlink), with download of 275 mbs. Wondering if anyone has success with their ROON access with satellite connection. I am on a mountain, on top of a volcano in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (Hawaii). Mahalo for any comments
I can’t help you, but your situation sounds awesome! Love Hawaii.
Use Tailscale, which is a supported solution.
The starlink we have seems to reset itself at 2am or so every few nights. It also does not like bad weather (heavy rain/snow/ice etc.). Other than that for just Roon I would not expect issues.
I went snow skiing in Hawaii when I lived there back in the 80s. Just to say I did… LOL
Also, downhill biking from the crater was fun.
But as @Suedkiez says you may need to use tailscale if you are going to use ARC. But I do not use ARC anymore so can’t comment on it with Starlink. I do know that when I tried it on my fiber connection ARC never really worked reliably for me, so i gave up on it a quite a while ago.
Yeah I just commented on ARC because it seemed obvious to me that regular Roon would just work like on any internet
Living in a rural part of WA state, we’ve had Starlink for several years - Roon works just fine with Starlink. I’m also happy to report that there has been great improvement with ARC over the last several months. We used it extensively for several weeks while vacationing in Alaska recently, and it worked great. We’ve also taken several road trips and seems fine. Of course, what I’m referring to is maintaining the connection back home. There’s still work to be done with the Android Audio Interface, but if you control it from the app on your phone, it more or less behaves itself enough to play music. You’ll also need to use it over a VPN or Tailscale.
+1ing Peter’s comment above - I used Roon & Qobuz with Starlink with no issues for a couple of years.
