According to Google ROON formats your add in drive using ext4 format. When I try and search for specific file using my MAC results are very slow to arrive if they arrive at all. (I can list and open folders)
Is there a better way? Perhaps using a 3rd party app? Thanks!
The local file system is irrelevant when you access the SMB share over the network.
Thanks. Any idea why its pretty much useless using Mac Finder?
Finder is simply slow for searching SMB shares. Try googling „SMB search slow Mac“ ![]()
I don’t know what „very slow“ and „useless“ means for you. For me, it takes about 1 minute to search for a file name on ROCK‘s internal storage. The ROCK is on Ethernet, the Mac on fast wifi. That’s slow but I believe expected (12,654 tracks on the storage).
Thanks again. I should not have been lazy! ![]()
BTW - very slow is 10 minutes plus & useless is finder never finds the fine.
I have 11K files
This seems unusually slow. Is this an SSD?
Could be a network speed/latency issue, too. You could try if searching in a text terminal or an alternative GUI file manager is also slow, to narrow it down to Finder or not. (The googling for „Finder SMB search slow“ should bring up discussions with some suggestions for GUI file managers)
This greatly improved performance. Some guy online suggested I google .. ![]()
Use this Terminal command:
defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores -bool TRUE
Then log out of your macOS account and log back in.
Nice find!
