Seeking Affordable NAS or NUC Options for Roon

I’ve been using pretty low powered mini pc from beelink without any issues. It’s EQ14 which has Intel n150 cpu. With 16g ram + 1tb ssd, it handles my over 20k tracks with a few other docker services plus tailscale vpn and cloudflare tunnel.
I have 3 roon ready devices and often does multiroom play and it works pretty well.
This consumes so little power so so little heat and zero fan noise. I’m very happy with this small box.

Tbh I’m not sure in what scenario would I need more powerful server.

Oh I forgot to mention. I also do live transcode from flac to opus for Roon Arc playback. And no problem at all with Arc too.

The Cirrus 7 Nimbini is a good passive cooled pc but far from cheap. Just for the Windows 11 Pro license you have to pay 50% of the total price of the Minix Z300 including same Windows 11 Pro License…

But it’s much better value without Windows 11. Mine came with a free ROCK installation, so no need for WIndows.

Cirrus should not do this - it contravenes Roon Labs licensing conditions. I note that pre-installation of RoonOS is no longer explicitly mentioned on their web site, so perhaps they’ve had their fingers rapped.

I bought my Cirrus several years ago, so they may not be offering a ROCK installation any more. In any event, it is fairly straightforward as a DIY exercise, just by following the instructions for a NUC.

I don’t think the performance benefit is so big compared to a win 11 pro on diet. I prefer comfort and when you use HQ player you must decide for Linux or Windows. A not very symphatic decision of hq player in my humble opinion…
