Setting combo interface for 2.1 channel for AL

I have a 2.1 setup and I was wondering if it’s possible to stream into a sub a separate convolution filter of AL (audiolense) into a second DAC.

First main combo DAC will be current Holo Spring DSD512x48 with convolution on channel 1 and 2

Second combo DAC will be ifi Neo iDSD sending on channel 1 the convolution filter for subwoofer. Also DSD512x48

On Matrix profile I need to create a 3 channel output with 2 convolution filters for stereo output and 1 convolution for subwoofer?

Since its all going to be running from 1 CPU on the net then this applies:

“When “time” synchronization is used within a single server between devices, correctness of the absolute time is not important as there is only one clock involved.”

Please advise on combo settings:

You like the idea @dabassgoesboomboom ?

It might be possible on a Mac if you have multiple of the same DAC , using aggregate feature ? I’ve not tried this and haven’t seen anyone else write about it (for DSD256 anyway).

Problem is you would need to do this for your measurements - and this is where problems would begin

What you really need does not exist unfortunately - multichannel true DSD Direct interface

Best to sell Holo May and buy a good multichannel PCM audio interface  for optimal Audiolense XO results. Measure and playback with same interface. You get some DAC and ADC correction!

Or use Holo May with headphones for DSD!

I think just sell the subwoofer :joy: stay 2.0!

You mentioned that before and that’s why I did the 2.0 measurements too

I think your current setup with sub is ok, even if not “textbook ideal” ?

A lot of people run DAC XLR to amp input and then DAC RCA out to subwoofer and are happy

If you can blend sub in with Audiolense XO (like you have already !!:ok_hand:) this is significantly better than just blending by ear alone

I agree with you! I can crank up the volume with the filters enabled, and the sound is fantastic. Without it on some music types, the base may be overpowered.

XO will be on the bucket list!

Many thanks again !

You can try it out how well it works for you. Combo backend creates a virtual multichannel device. So two stereo devices would make a four channel device. For sub it may work.

Some things to consider:

  1. The two DACs may have a different delay which would affect sync
  2. And since the clocks are not synchronized they may drift out of sync over time depending on how precise the clocks are
  3. Starting multiple USB devices precisely at the same moment is difficult, since the communication is independent.

Pro audio interfaces typically have word clock synchronization feature to deal with (2). IIRC, RME ADI-2 for example supports it through chaining S/PDIF or AES.
