Should I stop the server for upgrades? (Answer: No, why would you? :) )

Maybe a dumb question, but…

If I’m upgrading a linux installation and the upgrade includes something that requires a reboot, should I manually stop the Roon server before rebooting?

And if I should, can I do that with a simple systemctl stop roonserver or is there a more “official” way to do it?

Thanks!

You can stop Roon server with systemctl stop roonserver.service, but it isn’t necessary to do so if you reboot your system. At shutdown for reboot, all running processes will receive a STOP signal…

That said, you might also consider delay the system reboot until a convenient moment. Linux doesn’t force you to reboot immediately after an upgrade.

I just reboot my Debian NUC running Roon, Plex and LMS and never have a problem with anything, you don’t need to stop services beforehand.
