Showing (off) your Motorcycles

Definitely too darned cold to even think about riding here, down to 25 tonight and sleet/snow.
Never had that in Florida…lol.
Mind I did buy a new helmet yesterday to replace my aging Shoei.
Worn Shoei and Arai my whole life but new prices are just crazy right now.
Picked up a Bell Broozer for peanuts in sale and its the most comfortable helmet I have ever tried, of course not ridden it yet so wind noise etc is unknown but I’m hopefull.

Yep, down to -5 F here and snow on the ground.
Had to get a new snow blower a as mine decided to give up.

I put a Givi screen on, which is much taller although less thick material so it moves more.

The taller screen helps a fair bit but I won’t be riding a naked bike in this life!

I just got back from a trip to Mexico where I rode this with a group of friends from down there. We hit some rain but mostly glorious weather and roads as well as wonderful people and food.

That was some ride!
I have been to Oaxaca and know it’s a glorious area, the actual rides must have been super fun.

Crazy weather here.
Yesterday 52 and a bitter chill wind.
Today 77 and humid!
High seventies until Sunday when it will drop down to 39/24.
So took the BCR out for a blast.
No burgers were harmed in the making of this photo

Shakes?!?!

Actually… No..lol.
I was waiting for CVS to complete my prescription so was just sitting at an outside table in the Rallyes next door when a server asked me if I wanted a diet Coke and an apple pie she had just got for a customer in the drive thru who then drove off after changing their mind.
Very nice of her so I of course said yes but as it’s nearly Christmas I gave her $5 as a tip for herself.
She appeared to deeply appreciate it and brought me out a refill without me even really needing one but not going to say no.

It has been wet and cold here for the last few weeks.
That is the one bike you have that I wouldn’t mind having myself.

The turn of the ZX9R today.
This really is a beast.
2003 motor in 2000 bike.
When I blew the head gasket I had the head skimmed to make sure it was flat which pushed the compression up further I know.
Runs on 93 only to be safe.
It just rips, also aided by the fact I left its drag gearing in place, by revs I would say it tops out at 155 now so it’s got a lot more mid range than it had when stock which was considerable to start with!
Then I decided it needed a clean and polish, my absolute least favorite part of bike ownership. Even with gloves on I usually cut myself somewhere reaching into all the nooks and crannies😐

The observant amongst you( if that exists here🤣) might have noticed the missing full size Muzzy exhaust can.
Unfortunately a few weeks back it literally fell to pieces and was not going to be cost effective to repair.
That fugly short thing was from my stash and is a doorstop stopgap.
Just today managed to find a period correct Micron can in California at a fair price.

Next 15 minutes of infamy.
My younger brother went to school and was very good friends with the younger brother of the guy who founded and owned Micron Exhaust Systems based in Codnor, Derbyshire.

Small world…

The previous exhaust was longer than the river Nile , it falling off probably saved you 10 kilos which just just about cover your Xmas food binge weight gain.

First ride of the year.
Took the Zed for a 90 mile round trip to nowhere and back just because
70 degrees and clear blue sky all day.
A made in Heaven day for a ride.

Disclaimer: no cows, chicken’s, pigs or any type of livestock were harmed in the making of this ride😇

And finally…a can on the ZX9R I “can” live with.
The Micron I bought was as fugly as sin on the bike and stuck out even further than the Muzzy did! Never even fired it up to check sound I just hated it.
But this one works … for now🤣

And it does sound good, not overloud but a good rasp like all UJM fours should be👍

These photos bring back memories from 45 years ago, and a bit of jealousy.

Not a photo of mine, found a likeness online. 1980 or 81 version Suzuki GSX 1100. Old style looks but crazy fast out of the box.

Added a full race D&D header, re-jetted and synced the carbs, and added a few extra quarter sized openings in the airbox for more air flow. Had to be easy on the throttle to avoid standing it up. Nasty fast.

Short story, worked 3rd shift at IT datacenter, a friend of mine always road the bike to and from lunch with me. Late night shenanigans. On the way back one night my friend asked me to show him what it would do. From a stop light I eased off the line then cracked the throttle, stood it straight up to 4th gear then let off. Only time that friend ever hugged me. He has told that story many times over the years, still makes me smile.

Had numerous fast bikes but none even came close to that performance. Never timed it at the track but it would probably do high 9’s in the quarter mile. Not bad for a street bike. After the hot rod days my last 2 bikes were the Honda VTX 1800 (Harley want to be but can’t afford to be) then the Honda Goldwing.

If I get another one it will be a nice comfortable 3 wheeler.
