Modded Oppo 203 my Roon endpoint,
(Mod thread detailing the mods here: https://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?56087-Hey-guess-what-Im-about-to-do-Major-Oppo-mods)
I fitted an i2s output board to the Oppo so use an i2s connection to the Directstream dac, which is it’s best sounding input.
Other stuff…
PS Audio Directstream Dac
PS Audio BHK Signature Preamp
Custom build 300B SET power amp, Western Electric 300B’s. A meaty 7 watts per channel!
Speakers are again custom built to suit the amp. 93db efficient.
Still enjoy vinyl, have a pretty decent setup with a Michell TT, SME V arm and Dynavector MC cart, played through a PS Audio Nuwave phonostage.
All Wireworld cabling. except the speaker cable, which is the new design Morrow SP7.
Very nice Gaz! While i’m sure the digital sounds very nice, the Orbe SE surely stands it’s ground!
(AlfaGTV on the AoS)
I just finished building my Roon ROCK and I’m totally stoked. Only ran in to a few snags but they were easily resolved. I went with a NUC 7i5BHN, Crucial 8GB single DDR4 memory and Transcend 64GB SATA III M.2 HDD. I decided to attach my 1TB USB3 HDD to my Nighthawk router for NAS option.
My first impressions are that there is a definite improvement in SQ. Better soundstage, more depth in imaging as well.
Looking good Mark. I know nothing about Nighthawk routers, but the NAS performance on my router is pretty poor. You may see an improvement connecting the HD directly to your NUC.
Hi Mike, good to see you here.
Yeah, the black stuff still doing the business and sounding very good indeed and it’s nice to have.
Roon’s changed the way I listen to music though, if I was starting from scratch not sure I’d fall down the vinyl black hole though!
What a fantastic thread this is. I love it, especially the pictures.
Our main system consists of:
Mac Mini i7 server late 2011
Naim Uniti Atom (Roon Ready streamer pre amp)
Naim NAP200 (power amp)
Cambridge Audio CXC CD transport
Dynaudio Contour S 3.4 LE
In the attic the setup contains more vintage components:
Kenwood L-1000C (pre amp)
Kenwood L-1000M (power amp)
Kenwood L-1000D (CD player)
Kenwood L-1000T (tuner)
Yamaha WXA-50 (streamer and Roon endpoint via Apple Airplay)
B&W 685 S2
Best regards from The Netherlands,

Beautiful looking setup! Nice and clean and balanced. Oh I’m sure the sound is fabulous too!
What racks are those?
My simple mainly hidden and very cosy set up with Roon/Tidal at its core, the view is looking down the listening room (dont tell me wife i call it that, its our lounge, lol)
PC Running Windows 10, La Cie HDD, Isotek Cleanline ( all hidden from sight)
Ming Da Campana Integrated Valve Amplifier (and a drawer full of valves to roll as the mood takes me, again hidden)
JM Labs Focal Mini Utopia’s
Chord Qutest (MIT USB cable)
Reference Fidelity components Interconnect and Black Rhodium Samba speaker cables
Keeps me sane, nearly as i hurtle thro my late 50’s, how did that happen so fast!!
Thanks for the nice answer. That’s why I like to show the other half of the room.
They look like Stands Unique to me.
This is our secondary living room configuration. The Roon core resides on a Lenovo i7 “Tiny” PC in the basement media room and is ethernet connected to a Raspberry Pi with the Ropieee OS. The Pi is housed in a very nice Flirc cast aluminum case, and is USB connected to a Meridian Director DAC. Prior to employing the Meridian DAC, I used the Pi with a HiFiBerry DAC+Pro. Truth be told, to me, the HiFiBerry HAT sounded about the same as the Meridian Director. I’m a big fan of Roon. It’s truly impressive how user friendly and trouble free Roon is even for and old guy like me who didn’t grow up in the tech world.
The rest of the system is a combination of an old Marantz SR9600 receiver and i.Link connected DV9600 SACD - DSD capable DVD player, along with an Oppo BDP-93 a DirecTV DVR, and a Roku Ultra. The TV is one the last of the of Panasonic “Z” series Plasma TV’s.
looks like an arlo hub as well?
An updated office setup (posting as procrastination from working on a lovely autumnal Sunday afternoon!)…
The monitors are out wide so we can use the shutters, but with room correction they actually sound brilliant - obviously a very wide soundstage but pinpoint accuracy.
That is such an aesthetically pleasing desk, clean lines and wonderful French shutters.
I’m sure its a delight to sit there.
System update
Naim unity atom
Bowers wilkins cm8 s2
Supry speaker cables
Qnap ts253be roon core
Upgraded network switch cisco
Upgraded router fortiwifi c60
Nice system, although I would give those puppies a bit more room to “breathe”.
Fortinet firewall now that’s getting serious for a home setup. Pretty old model now tho…maybe a link back to the office?
Yup
