I’m not using them in the listening room :slightly_smiling_face: but they sound pretty fine. :headphones:

Home office system…

Posted before, but a few changes.

Experimenting with a Raspberry Pi running RoPieeeXL with HQPlayer/NAA. Also ordered a Pi2AES hat, which I’ll have in a couple of weeks, and we’ll see if I can tell a difference.

Pi goes USB to Matrix X-SPDIF 2 then AES into a Topping D70 DAC.

From there, into an Audiolab 8000A integrated.

Speakers are PSB Imagine B’s with a little Cambridge Audio Minx X200 sub.

I never play things too loud in here, but I gotta say, it sounds pretty darned good.

Great set-up, similar to mine. I also have H390 and Rega P6. Can I ask if you have compared the Auralic DAC against the DAC in the Hegel? I am wondering if I should get an external DAC.

Very nice. I love my Freya+ but my JJ tubes developed hum and turn on thump in about four months so I replaced them with tung sols.

I just got a matched quad set of Psvane tubes, had to wait months for them to ship and get delivered, but WELL Worth the wait. Really opened up the Freya+.

Oh, I really liked the Psvane tubes when I had my Nagra VPA mono blocks. The WE845 were great sounding and still so neutral and lovable. Kind of miss my tube days sometimes. Always a bit more of an adventure with tubes.

Hi there. I have compared as I got the Auralic later and was using the Hegel only at the beginning. The difference is not mind blowing in my opinion as the Hegel is a solid DAC. However, I feel the Auralic has more spectrum, better frequency separation, the mid/highs are shimmier and the basses more defined. It’s a taste and obviously budget question… I’m happier with my Auralic in a nutshell. Hope this helps, enjoy the great sound! Cheers

I received my Freya+ just a week ago after a three months ordeal in getting it to Malaysia. But, in short, it is worth the wait and efforts. It blown me away. Now I have to relisten to all my favourite albums one by one again.

Thank you for responding, good to hear you rate the Hegel DAC. You are right, it is very much about taste. I find a similar difference between my vinyl set up and the Hegel DAC, so I will look out for a second hand Vega.

Hey folks. It’s been a while since I posted here. Really enjoy seeing and reading about your audio playback setups.

I think, at some point, some of us will add a piece to our setup not really knowing how it will enhance anything (or not!) until we install it in our listening space.

Because I stream Tidal hi-res often, I began researching ethernet switches as I prefer to hard-wire vs. wireless. My reasoning for this research was because your garden variety of switch is an inexpensive component, it must not be paying attention to electrical noise, as that is not its focus. I then discovered that there are a handful of manufacturers that have focused on switches geared towards audiophiles and lower electrical noise. And, I found they were hugely overpriced. Not necessarily snake oil, but perhaps taking advantage of a narrow market as I’d guess not many consumers are going to spend extra money on a low-noise ethernet switch when a regular garden variety switch gets the job done.

Anyway, I came across a used audiophile ethernet switch that is rated to be somewhere in the middle in terms of its performance and price point. I needed a switch anyway, so I thought I’d splurge and make an offer. The seller had upgraded to a more expensive switch. He accepted the offer and I set it up when it got here. It recognized everything I plugged into it. And I have to say, it has made a positive difference. Especially in the low bass frequencies. Nice. Would I pay full retail for an audiophile ethernet switch? No, I wouldn’t. But if price is no object…

The switch I installed is the Silent Angel Bonn N8. I’m in Canada. In the UK it is available as the Chord Electric 8 switch, in different casing.

I’m really enjoying Roon and my current setup. Here’s some recent pics. My wiring has turned into a bit of a rat’s nest, but it doesn’t bother me. It provides easy access to everything I need. Cheers. Enjoy the music.

May I ask what the rock’s doing on top of your power filter?

I spent way longer than I’d like to admit looking for an Intel NUC in those pictures when you asked about the “ROCK”.
