The sound is very good.

My question is could you just upgrade to a better DAC chip to enable higher sample rates, or would it throw off the entire “architecture”?

Thank you for sharing and apologies for a very late post. I was just scrolling down, interested in the discussion (I’m a H120 owner). My opinion, for what it’s worth, is that the Hegel H120 works really well as a Roon Endpoint and sounds as good as I’d would hope for, at least with the Revel Performa 3 M106. After using it with the Zen Stream (also an excellent Roon Bridge) with the H120 internal DAC and paired with a bit-perfect external DAC, I realized that I couldn’t hear any meaningful difference in sound quality. So, just relaxed and enjoy the music. Moved the Zen Stream to the office and use it in a desktop headphone setup. More possibilities without extra expenditure.
