In the meantime, Iād love to hear about your most memorable concert experiences and why live recordings are so powerful and thrilling to you.
Most Memorable, thats a hard question. Iāve been to thousands of concerts, and many that were very very memorable. But, if I had to choose one, it would be Bruce Springsteen Aug. 15, 1978 Capitol Centre, Largo Md.
Memorable because it was the first time Iād seen Bruce, and because it was my birthday.
Jean-Michel Jarreās 1997 concert in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Sold out Ahoy arena. Was standing in the front, right in the middle of the laser harp beams. Something Iāll never forget.
Ozzy Osbourne, Reunion Arena, Dallas TX, Jan. of 1996. I had never seen Ozzy live and I didnāt really know anything more than what was on the radio. I had never seen the pure energy from a crowd like that before, it was exhilarating. Oh, and the water cannons at an indoor venue during January was something else. The sweaty crowd welcomed the spray and cheered with every torrent of water aimed at them. It was a wild ride.
The first time I saw Ozzy solo was on his Blizzard of Oz tour with Def Leppard opening up. Great Gig. Also, 1 day after my birthday that year, lol.
My birthday and concerts, in 1992, I was surprised by my friend with 15th row center tickets at RFK Stadium in DC to see U2 āZoo TV Tourā with Primus and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy opening. I found a video of the entire concert here: āhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTShcdsKSzQā
Probably my first Sonic Youth concert, during the Goo tour on September 21, 1990, at the Arena open air in Vienna. After a hot and beautiful late summerās day, a sudden huge thunderstorm came down an hour before stage time, after which the Arena staff was frantically trying to dry the mixing desk and amps with hair blowers for two hours, until someone announced āweāll turn it on now and either there will be a fire or a concertā. It was the latter and Sonic Youth delivered a somewhat shortened but blisteringly annoyed set, wearing anoraks in suddenly very chill weather.
