I am having lots of dropouts recently. I have Roon running on a good gaming computer with both Sonos 1, Sonos 2, and Bluesound. I originally got Roon to group them all, after Sonos app broke. Anyways, it was fine up until recently. I thought I needed a nuc..
Doing some investigating, I separated my speakers. Roon works fine with Bluesound but Sonos 2 is having the dropouts. So the problem isn’t my server, but Sonos and Roon connection. Can you fix this please?
I’m just a fellow user.
Could you explain how the Sonos devices are connect to the network?
Could you explain your network configuration?
You need to post in the support area, not in the discussion.
I’ve got a couple of Sonos ZP 90s in my system along with a pair of gen 1 Play 5s.
Recently, my kitchen zone refused to work. I did the usual rigmarole of resetting the whole network but no joy. The zone was showing up in roon, I could ping it, and it appeared to be working fine but no music. I swapped it out with my other known good ZP 90 but still nothing! I didn’t know whether to blame my router, roon or what.
After a couple of days, everything had returned to normal but I don’t know why as nothing on my network has changed for years.
Hopefully yours will return too.
One thing you could try is to unplug your Sonos endpoint and plug it back in after 15 minutes. I’ve been told that a static electricity can build up and will interfere with your signal, which sounds like Cosmic Debris foo but it worked for me a couple of times.
Hope you get it sorted.
The Sonos connection seems to be fairly prone to this behaviour. I’ve had my Sonos kit appear in Roon but refuse to play quite often.
You’ll find it happening quite a bit if you search the forum.
Sometimes, it’s only sometimes, playing natively through the Sonos app wakes up the connection.
And there’s the bizarre thing, I never had any issues ![]()
It’s a translated protocol so there’s so many edge cases that would trigger it that troubleshooting would be a nightmare.
That being said it’s relatively common, just searching on a single title
Ok, thanks everyone. I’ll post in the support section! My Sonos 1 are connected to the network with a boost, Sonos 2 are just on Wifi. Sonos work fine through the Sonos app (shockingly). It all worked fine with Roon for several months. I’ll try unplugging I suppose, everything is up to date…
My problem is when I send music to a Sonos endpoint, then go to Sonos and add more rooms, after the first song ends, Sonos drops the rooms I added. This doesn’t happen if I play the playlist directly from Sonos, and it didn’t use to happen with Roon. It makes streaming to the whole house virtually impossible with Roon, so instead I use JRiver Media Center to do it as it doesn’t have the same issue..
OK, I always thought it was weird that my Bluesound in Roon were in group that I had made in the Bluesound app (Bluesound has the worst app). I’m not actually able to ungroup them in Roon! I always thought I should add all the speakers individually through the Roon app. That’s what Ilike to do and I have a proper all house group with both kinds of speakers. Sonos 2 app is actually almost OK again..
