It should be possible to sort the database by the following meta data:
- “Sort Album”
- “Sort Artist”
- “Sort Album Artist”
It should be possible to sort the database by the following meta data:
Welcome to the Roon community, @Jorg_Kohler.
These options are already available. For example, go to My Library → Albums, and the sort option are on the right.
From this you can sort ascending or descending by artist, album title, etc. You may also filter on keywords.
Moreover, you can use Focus to drill down further, for example Genesis albums where Steve Hackett is a performer.
Similar features are available for Artists, Tracks, Composers, and Compositions.
I have a script that constructs a sort string for album and name. It would be great to be able to sort by those properties.
My goal is to sort by composer, then by work type (symphony, string quartet), then by album artist, then by index number (1, 2, 3). So the result is all Beethoven symphonies by Klemperer sort together by index number.
MJW, I think this response is, unfortunately, off target. I understand that the request is to sort on the iTunes tags/fields. I don’t see those fields in my Roon app or in your pic. I also have this request.
How did you arrive at this conclusion? The OP wanted to…
And this is already possible.
Thank you for the reply. I suppose this thread is turning into support rather than feature request. I can find no options for the metadata that you requote above. I see exactly 5 options in the Sort dropdown menu both on my app and in the screen shot that you posted. Would you please help me get to options for the 3 metadata fields indicated by the OP? Thanks.
You are probably missing the sort order options, which are located in Settings → General.
This changes the behaviour of how an artist is displayed. For example, Yes, The Zutons, and Yorkston/Thorn/Khan have the same artist and artist sort metadata. In Contrast, Paul Young may be displayed under first or last name.
Thanks again for your reply. I do think there is a disconnect about the request. I refer you to the Apple Music app formerly known as iTunes. Metadata in that app includes properties labeled "sort album”, “sort name”, “sort artist”, and “sort album artist”. This is what I would like to sort by and am pretty sure is the target of the OP. Please see the pic of the info window below.
Please also see this partial screen capture of the Music metadata for class “track”. I hope that this provides clarity about the applicability of iTunes/Music app
Roon already handled the sort order according to your preference.
Thanks again for your engagement. I think it is important to get the issue right. Roon is not sorting on sort album (or at least I can’t figure out how to do it.)
The first screen capture is from Roon. Note that it is sorting by album. Because in the album title the artist is listed after the composition, the Roon result is :
This is not what I would like. I would like to sort on metadata sort album. Using this metadata results in the order. This is my preference.
Please see the screen captures from Roon and Music below
Okay, so you are specifically looking for the ALBUMSORT tag, and essentally want to fudge correct sorting order so a sequence of albums are placed together in the results.
Roon doesn’t support this tag. However, you could implement this with a custom Roon tag. For example, using your tagging software add ROONALBUMTAG=value(ALBUMSORT).
Using this, you can bookmark a dynamic view that would sort by the tag. You can also filter the by artist etc.
Since the OP isn’t particularly clear, you may want to open a new request in Feedback > Feature Suggestions. Once this is done, I can merge this thread. This has the advantage that the OP clearly states what is being requested, which helps others to understand and support the suggestion.
This is very helpful. I opened this thread a few days ago. Is it OK, or should I start over?
