NetComm modems had best fidelity in this regard.
Classic with the Cartman voice, ha ha ha! I love it. Back in the day a friend of mine got busted for torrenting and the FBI like raided his house to arrest him, and in the end he had to repay like 30k in damages. I quit torrenting that day. It really is amazing to me how far we have come over the last 15-20 years with the internet. The speeds we have now on landlines and on mobile phones was unimaginable back then. And here we are. We donāt even have to wait to download anything, its so fast we can just play music from wherever and it is pretty instant .
lol ha ha ha! I never got to hear one unfortunatelyā¦too bad
My wife loves her Spotifyā¦so much so that I had to invest in a plethora of endpoint options that have both (Spotify and Roon) in one form or another tho mostly Roon Bridge or Ready devices and the odd Airplay supported option too.
I have a large 250K track local library. I have uncapped data on my home internet (some dont) and this is perfect for me. I seldom used Spotify at home due to the 320K content limit but that might change regardless of a Roon interface. I have Tidal and Qobuz integration with Roon now. for discovery its great.
I use multi room with Roon frequently enough that its a must have with minimal fuss.
Spotify quality was always an issue for me in the car and my phone carrier gives me tidal free data so while it was helpful being 320K for Spotify in the car it still wasnāt free data and it sounded like crap even in the car compared to the same tidal tracks.
This how does it compare to ITIBAL
Spotify isnāt going to give up on showing their interface.
So Roon would have to totally change their approach for integration to happen.
I also think this could really hurt Qobuz and Tidal. I think most people would prefer the giant Spotify catalog in CD over what the others offer in hi-rez.
Roon is never going to interface with Spotify or Apple Music or Amazon HD the way they do with Tidal and Qobuz. Not gonna happen. Which probably means those services will disappear in the medium term. Majority of Roon endpoints are also Spotify Connect enabled, and will also be with Tidal Connect in the future. So, youāll be able to stream whatever you want from a phone or tablet or computer without Roon. Roon will become the default service for those with large local libraries - oh the irony. For me, Spotify is meh and I really should ditch my sub because Iāve only ever found like 2 albums that Spotify has that Tidal doesnāt. I have no use for playlists because Iām not 19, and there is no family streaming situation in Rockhound Towers.
So, basically I could give a F about Spotify āHiFiā as I have no use for it. JFC looks like I might have to purchase a record player .
ā¦Just kidding.
I quit my Spotify sub some years ago because of their horrendous privacy policy. As far as I can tell qobuz is less intrusive in that regard. I may have a look at it again once this is live. But selling my data to the big tech giants is a no go for me (and should be for you).
Same here, i was a Spotify user since the introduction in the Nordic countries.
They have no interest in integration with niche players, they are data harvesters.
What you play is monetized by your subscription fee and when they sell your listening profile.
I really like their service, not their privacy policy, so i left.
The same for why i do not use Amazon, Google, Facebook and the likes, companies with absolutely no conscience.
Unfortunately i have to deal with the devil sometimesā¦
Spotify and Apple Music, agreed no chance. Spotify have one UI for all devices. Roon too. Neither will budge on that.
Amazon Music HD is the only chance of these 3 (in my non-expert opinionā¦). Amazon Music HD have a real sh!t UI on BluOS devices (like Bluesound products) but it is thereā¦
Audrivana confirmed they are in talks with Amazon Music HD⦠sure talking is only talking but the BluOS solution (which is out there and working for people) suggests it is open to different UIās⦠unlike Spotify.
Watch this space I say !
Yep to all that.
I was referring to the subset of users who were steadfastly arguing against the utility of integration (no matter whether itād be possible, which we unfortunately agree on), based on such finely fleshed out argumentation as āI donāt use it so RoonLabs shouldnāt do itā.
Do you honestly think the biggest market for Spotify is Bob Dylan listeners in 2021? Billy Eilish is a very talented modern musician and song writer that appeals to a much wider demographic than Bob does, comparing her to the backsstreet boys is hilarious and after seeing Bob a few years ago she can sing as well unlike him, one of the worst performances I have seen of a supposed legend. We all walked out half way through it was that bad.
I happen to be over 50 and really enjoy listening to all types of music including Billie Eilish, rather listen to her a million times than one Diana Krall recording.
Thank you for your anthropological and sociological expertise, fan of men in tights who scream about imaginary evil beings and who go around the world waving a giant puppet of a zombie.
Iām a ROON lifer and Qobuz hires annual subscriber and Spotify premium user . I have a small local library of 500 CDs. When Spotify has CD quality, Iāll pack away my ROON subscription, like my CD player and turntable and switch to Spotify CD quality. Might have to upgrade my streamer from the current RPi4 which feeds my Holo Audio May Dac or use RopieeeXL. I believe Qobuz and Tidal are dead and ROON will be a static business for those who have large private collections. The growth in monthly subs is going to disappear. Perhaps ROON will call it a day and give lifers the package to use as they promised theyād do if they go out of business. Canāt see a future in this business model. Streaming is where the opportunity is and the battle will be Spotify/Apple/Amazon/YouTube music where the deep pockets reside. I donāt feel bitter about the lifetime ROON sub, itās just another piece of kit that will have passed itās time. Until then, itās beautiful but buggy and I canāt wait for a better streaming option from a company with deeper pockets and better dev resources.
Roon isnāt having the best time at the moment, is it?
First the 1.8 kerfuffle (which is over the top IMO) and now this.
Personally, Iāve always regretted having to dump Spotify because of the inferior sound quality. Spotify Connect works great and Spotifyās recommendation algorithms three years ago were superior to what Roon is offering now.
The question remains whether Spotify Connect will adopt local file integration, but I think I might be able to live with that lack of functionality.
Iāll certainly be having a long, hard look at Spotify lossless once it comes out. If itās satisfactory, this might well be my last year on Roon.
Way better. If I play Linda Oh over there I get al least more than 1 album :-).
Donāt assume I havenāt, or that Iām not a Maiden fan, or that if weāre going to talk zombies and Mozart, Iām going to confuse Jose van Dam and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Those geniuses, and threads from geniuses just like it, probably helped Spotify make a good decision to up their game. Better quality streams from Spotify is a good thing.
Pleaseā¦
Absolutely, but itās unrelated to a bunch of delusional, and surprisingly, myopic, retirees.
Being a self sufficient and happy retiree, Iām all for improvements, even if I donāt need or use them. Spotify has a big footprint, and if they can get the quality up and share that to the younger crowd, I think thatās a positive development.
Being a retiree gives me extra time to listen to music. Better than that 40 (+) hour work weekā¦
