I’m using Ropieee XL’s Spotify Connect service with a Hifiberry Amp 2. When using Hardware Volume Control the Volume Control is not working right. When I set the lowest volume possible in the Spotify app the Hifiberry amp still runs on an estimated 30% to 40% percents of its power. Increasing the volume a tiny little bit (to 20% in Spotify) corresponds to an estimated 80% of amp power. When I change the Spotify Connect settings in Ropieee XL to software volume control everything works as expected and low volumes are low.
I’m experiencing the exact same issue with an Allo Digione hat. So this does not seem to be a Hifiberry issue.
I’m running the the latest stable release of Ropieee XL.
Interestingly on Airplay and also Squeezelite the hardware volume control works as expected.
I experience the exact same issue. With hardware control it is WAY too loud and with software control it is too low. Even at full volume it is not really loud.
Are you willing to do some experimenting?
If so, please switch to the beta channel. I can then apply some changes in the settings which might affect your issue.

I observed the same kind of thing with my Hifiberry Amp 2.
My average listening level, for example with Roon, is 25%.
Sometimes, the volume of my Hifiberry Amp 2 goes to 71% by itself!
I did not find what triggers this but I found that it was related to Spotify Connect.
Since I no longer use it, I invalidated the service on Ropieee XL, I no longer observe this.

ok, tried that version now. It is better now but not optimal. With squeezelite volume increases pretty linear from 0 to 100. On Spotify connect volume increases very slowly till ~80% and then gets loud. 100% seems to be the same on squeezelite and Spotify connect
