Spotify integration to avoid Spotify --> Qobuz conversion

Hey folks,

Any chance we may expect a Spotify integration soon in Roon? I know Spotify wasn’t willing in the past, maybe that has changed? Especially as soon as Spotiy hifi hits the market.

Some things are comming more and more a hassle in discovering and enyoying new music.

As the Rock Werchter festival took place in my country, I wanted to discover the setlist. I found an official playlist on Spotify.

The easy way:
Play te spotify playlist to my NAD BluOS amplifier using Spotify connect. Or when I want give more visibility to the songs I’m listentening to: use Chromecast attached to my TV that’s also attached to the opticial input of the amplifier.

The hard way with Roon:
Luckely, I’ve already have a year subscription on both Qobuz and Roon. But I had to go further: I also needed a subscription to Soundizz, to transfer the Spotiy playlist.
Damned 7 songs unavailable on Qobuz.
I ended up by creating myself a Spotiy playlist of the songs unavailable on Qobuz. And listen to those 7 songs on Spotify. The rest I could listen to using roon, after the Spotify to Qobuz playlist conversion.

Spotify doesn’t want to integrate with anyone else. They always force you to use their app.

Agree, but at @Tom_Glorieux indirectly points out, one useful area where Roon could integrate with Spotify is at the Playlist level.

Effectively using your Spotify account details within Roon — much like you’d do in Soundiz, SongShift or TuneMyMusic — solely for the purpose of importing Spotify playlists into Roon and sharing Roon playlists with non-Roon users. Without you having to leave the Roon interface.

I posted my thoughts on this a while back…

Using Spotify’s API, it should indeed enable Roon to access your Spotify playlists.
