Spotify or Spotify HiFi in Roon [spotify will not allow this]

The only problem…

I hope Roon doesn’t help fund the streaming service who make such terrible royalty payments to musical artists but throw money at podcasters.

By no way a new topic but as they were closed a few years ago and as Spotify has rolled out lossless streaming, the topic should be reopened.
Will Spotify be added to Roon ?

The feature suggestion where this is from seems open. Whether Spotify’s stance has changed since then, who knows, but I don’t know why lossless would have an impact on it:

Thanks, you’re absolutely right. Let’s hope Spotify changes their mind then.

The introduction of lossless is likely to increase the demand for this from the Roon user side, and Roon’s ownership by Harmon (and thus a device ecosystem much, much larger than Roon) might change Spotify’s appetite. Time to reopen this!

Agree. This is a nobrainer. Please add support for Spotify since Spotify lossless is now a thing.

Tell it to Spotify. See the link that was posted three posts up:

Maybe now Spotify offers lossless music it will become available in Roon?

@MacMeijers, please read the subject, and preceding post. Thanks.

Hi @MacMeijers,
I’ve merged your post into this existing Feedback > Feature Suggestions topic.

As you will see Roon are willing but unfortunately Spotify are not.

What would be the advantage to move to Spotify with Roon instead of Qobuz with Roon? If you are already using Qobuz/Roon.

One would think that Spotify has the largest chance of survival of all streaming services. And I guess many people like their app, which could be useful outside of Roon (podcasts, workout stuff etc).

It would also be a huge boost for Roon, but alas so far it hasn’t looked like it’s going to happen.

Well Qobuz library is quite a bit smaller than Spotify’s. Same goes for Tidal btw. And since both Tidal and Qobuz don’t seem to do well financially… Spotify seems to be a solid choice now once lossless fully rolls out.

Picked up a month’s sub on it after being away from Spotify for several years, just to see how the current state of affairs are. Not fond of all the extra stuff, but library wise Spotify has pretty much everything available. Great playlists too.

So yeah. Getting Spotify onboard can be a great boon. That coming from someone who has been subbed to Qobuz for 5 years straight (the last two years with Sublime), and Tidal on and off for the same period.

Depending on how you define available. It may have more than Qobuz/Tidal, but some artists are missing just as much, and some genres have the same holes.
