Their subscribers don’t seem to care about hifi and as you point out, they can’t charge for it so why bother offering it.
I’d probably use it. With Apple, you can’t wirelessly stream at lossless quality. Amazon has a horrible interface and limited to CD quality of Airplay. Tidal has Tidal Connect but not that many devices have it compared to Spotify Connect. And roon just got bought out by Harmon, a Samsung Company. Who knows what that will mean a year from now. So would be nice to have more options for streaming lossless or hires at home.
They’ve just announced redundancies so it doesn’t look too good there right now
Spotify seems like a highly mismanaged company.
Their foray into podcasts has been a financial disaster too.
And lossless was announced over 2 years ago and it still isn’t here.
I don’t think Spotify has ever made a profit. It’s a financial loss, upon loss, upon loss.
I guess the same can be said about pretty much all other streaming services as well.
I’ve decided to drop Tidal and stick with Qobuz when it comes to Roon. I’ve re-subbed to Spotify because they offered a 3 month deal for 11 Euro. I immediately remembered why I left them in the first place. Spotify Connect to my Cambridge CXNv2, it doesn’t even come close to the sound quality that Roon, Tidal and Qobuz offer. Still Spotify does have a lot of interesting music that is unavailable in the Roon environment.
More than happy with Qobuz. No need for any change

Since I switched from Tidal to Qobuz I am super happy. Cheaper and just as good if not better.
I honestly don’t mind what Spotify does now. 150 euros for the year is great value.
I’ve only kept iCloud storage and Apple Arcade from Apple One and dropped the rest.
Yeah Spotify sound quality is quite crap. Lets see what happens after the 3 months are up.
Roon, Qobuz and Spottyloss. I have almost all my music local. Spotty is used by the family, Qobuz by me…
Roon ARC really works for me… (Sorry Lewis…)
For roughly the same money as Spotify I subscribe to YouTube premium, get ad free YT which I use a lot & YT music which is actually IMO quite a good app although I don’t use it.
