I also noticed a ‘device not connected’ message shortly after the stop relating my Teac UD-501 (main listening means) could you check the logs for this please, perhaps related?
Thank you for your patience. We can see the buffer from streaming services failing to download the stream fast enough for higher-resolution, larger files to play in real-time.
This is an upstream connectivity issue between RoonServer and the streaming music servers. We need to find a way to more reliably reach streaming music servers through the router.
What you can do:
You’ve tried reassigning the Mac’s DNS settings, but let’s try the router.
You should be able to enter your PlusNet router settings by entering 192.168.1.254 in a browser.
Within those router settings, navigate to My Network → Advanced → IPv4 (or similar) and look for a DNS setting. Change the DNS server to 1.1.1.1, which is Cloudlfare, or 8.8.8.8, which is Google.
Hi, have updated (8.8.8.8), will monitor progress.
Whilst I was waiting for your response, I temporarily moved the server functionality over to my Windows 11 laptop yesterday (on the original DNS settings and accessing over WiFi) and used the iMac as an endpoint as well as streaming to my Marantz.
This worked flawlessly for the whole day, so I am wondering if the Qobuz streaming issues are iMac related? Have you any data from other customers to support this ? Are there more issues relating to iMacs than Windows ? I am prepared move the server over to the Windows laptop again if needed.
Server functionality now back on iMac for the DNS testing.
Howard
Testing Update
26/11/2024 (am) - Played through a Qobuz playlist for a couple of hours and then had a long, long pause before moving past ‘Mediterranean Sundance’ track (I notice this was high sample rate track).
26/11/2024 (pm) - Slow load refusal to restart track after pausing.
26/11/2024 (pm) - A few stoppages as I tried to integrate my ARCAM AV40 as a wireless endpoint. Rebooted all to clear.
26/11/2024 17:11 - lost all the networked zones after a iMac restart. Reappeared after Roon restart.
27/11/2024 - Turned on iMac, Roon server running in background, control on iPad no networked end point shown (AV40 is connected via wireless), refresh does not help.
Toggled OFF/ON RoonServer in network privacy and refreshed audio devices, this time the AV40 as Airplay appeared but not AV40 as network endpoint.
I’ve transferred the server back to the laptop, see how that goes. AV40 appeared correctly, once enabled plays as expected.
Hi @Howard_Seward1,
Since changing the DNS was unsuccessful the other thing we can suggest is to increase the bandwidth allocated to the iMac server. However this isn’t always possible depending on whether your router and ISP allow you to enable Quality of Service (QoS) settings on your router. This article goes into some detail on that topic. If the Windows server works flawlessly is there a reason you don’t want to use it as your server?
Hi Daniel, I couldn’t see any way of managing QoS with the router.
I believe there is still an issue with Sequoia and network access? Perhaps this is why I am having these issue with my iMac, though all other apps seem to run OK when streaming.
I will continue with the Windows laptop as server, it was not main computer for daily use, hence the iMac as the server, but seems to be working out better for Roon and will report back after a few days.
Hi @Howard_Seward1,
Our dev team is still investigating how Sequoia and Roon are interacting but the investigation could take a while. In the mean time I’m glad your Windows server has been working well for you.
Hi Daniel,
Windows sever still working well after using this last week.
I tried iMac as endpoint this morning via RoonBridge, broke after one track! So have abandoned use of iMac in any form.
If there is an issue with Sequoia, then perhaps you should put out a general statement as I’m sure other users are equally frustrated and would like an update.
