Streaming drives music industry revenue

U.S. music sales in 2016 reached $7.7 billion, up 11.4%. That’s the highest revenue since 2009 and highest growth since 1998, but the revenue is half of what it was in 1999.

Of that revenue:
Streaming: $3.9 B, up 69%.
Downloads: $1.8 B, down 23%.
CDs: $1.2 B, first year fewer than 100 million CDs sold.
