Streaming Services Update

Are there any plans for Roon to incorporate streaming services other than Tidal and Qobuz?

Perhaps you missed this announcement?

And Roon Labs have a history of not commenting on plans until they are set in concrete and implemented, so don’t hold your breath for an answer.

Due to how Roon incorporates streaming services so they are essentially treated like local libraries they don’t rely purely on services API like most other apps or hardware does. It also is fully cross platform so these services need to be available across all operating systems.

They need to have a two way partnership with the service so they can provide them with a full data dump of their databases, so Roon to ingest into their servers to allow what it does. Not all services have the means to do this or the inclination, and some give some very strict limitations and to what or how streams can be accessed. This results in some being ruled out as they don’t fit into Roons USP. This unfortunately reduces the amount of services that will integrate without any caveats.

As Geoff has said, they won’t say what they are working on until it’s near completion for testing in early access, until then it’s all locked down. They want to work with more but as previously mentioned stuff gets in the way and prevents it and some just are not interested at all. They won’t just add something using the api it needs to match feature wise to how the other services have agreed to work with them and fit into Roon the same, there won’t be half measures.
