Thanks for the detail on the G3 Plus. Your experience with DDR4 vs. 5 matches mine; DDR5 is not a top priority at this time. Great to know the 2280 slot supports both PCIe and SATA.
Just realized another advantage of the G3 Plus is socketed RAM instead of soldered (32GB max.). GMKtec sells a barebones model on their website for $119.
My Tidal subscription is elapsing coming week. And I had already disconnected it from Roon. But as a test I reconnected to my new Rock server. And it became very slow. 10-15 seconds to open a page, scroll down or search for something.
Disconnected Tidal and it become much faster again. This was before receiving a bunch of new music. Qobuz, Tidal and local music went to 103k tracks. Would be around 110k tracks with Tidal and my current library size.
Now with my new library size it is still decently quick. But I do think that 100k is pretty much the limit for my N97.
Well, that seems like a pretty firm healthy library size for the price! Thanks for the update… mine is still ticking along. I ordered a N150 G2 plus with 12GB/512GB for $149 so I could replace my other 7i5.
[side note on displaced hardware: Have been playing with my 7i5 running HQplayer Desktop on demo, upsampling to 192 on my Yggdrasil while I wait for my Cyan Holo 2 to be built, but I know that I’ll need a beefier machine to run HQP for real; luckily you can get a used i9 with RTX3060 for a song on eBay]
Only a single reboot after importing my whole music drive. My little box has been running problem free for nearly 2 weeks straight now It just updated to the latest Roon version. And it just works.
Roon ARC also runs rock solid. So I am a happy guy
Same here. Really good to hear! I actually keep mine on my desk now because it’s so cute & quiet instead of hiding it in the server closet (and because I have a home run ethernet cable at my desk).
Gave my cute little pink N97 to my brother-in-law to try a 30-day subscription to Roon, (I installed ROCK/MOCK and the codecs) and he just plugged it into his router and was up and running in 10 minutes with his Tidal subscription and a few dozen rips he’d done a while back. $136 to introduce someone to Roon, easy at the price.
My N150 GMKtec G2 Plus is running Ubuntu Desktop and HQPlayer, and is my “kitchen machine” in my home. I got that one for free because GMKtec made a shipping error.
And I just received my GMKtec K10 from China, which is going to be my (way overkill) Roon Core, Plex Server, SongKong, dnsmasq, Tailscale, etc. and replace my NUC 10i7 which has done valiantly but is beginning to have thermal thrash despite re-pasting and re-fanning.
But most importantly, that N97 is just awesome, teeny, and enabling of new users getting into the hobby.
