Nice to hear. I wonder why you didn’t went for OpenSuSe Tumbleweed as it is a rolling distribution with no end date. Just keep it updated

Very interesting. Please continue with updates.

Hi there,

my individual choice is mainly because i am the sysop of a couple of SLES12 and SLES15 virtual machines at work, Leap 15.6 is very close to SLES15 SP6 and for free

in addition to the former post here some background info about differences in SuSE Linux OS open distributions

openSUSE - Wikipedia

P.S.:

one useful tweak when you run this on a notebook to save power is what happen when you close the lid

at least on AC power you may want that the only thing is a black screen

i have found only a quite peculiar solution for this that you need to call every time after a reboot

automation with /etc/crontab entry like this

sbarello@music-server:~> sudo grep -n bash /etc/crontab
[sudo] password for root:
16:@reboot root /bin/bash -c ‘/usr/sbin/gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-ac-action blank’ > /var/log/crontab-reboot.log 2>&1

Final addition to the thread from the thread opener

after a couple of week of operation i am so much more satisfied with the underlying SuSE OS platform than before with Windows 10 / Windows 11 did not work because of the TPM 2.0 requirement

especially when i run my actual 4 zones all together / 3 RAAT protocol zones and 1 Chromecast streaming zone for the TV box, now there is no breakups anymore, this happened with windows a lot more frequently

with the Roon server running on Linux the old hardware is utilized with much more efficiency
