Happy Synology DS920 user for the past few years. With a few upgrades I have had very little issues. However my music library (~ 3TB) and database may have finally started to “outgrow” the 920’s capabilities.
I’m looking to switch to the more robust QNAP TVS-h874X
I’ll be installing on fresh HDs on the QNAP. In theory, will the data transfer be as “easy” as just dragging over my music files to the new nas and then exporting/importing the database?
Any other tips as to what to watch out for? Appreciate any insights!

Excellent choice, maybe even a bit overpowered as this series represents the most powerful compact NAS´ on the market in my understanding. If roon and some standard NAS tasks are the main application, I recommend to get the i5 version. The premium you pay for bigger CPU is mainly meant for complex virtual environments.
There are several options Over the network running both servers in one and the same subnet - easy in theory and fast. But you need to make music folders on your Synology accessible to a computer or the other NAS so they can be mounted as a network drive visible in the file manager or Windows explorer or whatever. The rest is drag&drop.
The easier but more time-consuming variant is a USB drive (exFAT formatted for example) which will be accepted by both NAS units. A 4 TB pocket drive (2.5") is a bit more than $100 and makes an excellent external backup unit you can store in your bank´s safety deposit box.
