Thank you KEF

Last week my 7 year old pair of KEF LS50W speakers decided to make a loud popping sound and then died while I was playing music. I happen to live 20 minutes away from KEF here in NJ so after contacting them to get an RMA number I boxed them up and dropped them off at KEF the next day. That was last week on Thursday. Today is Monday. I received an email from them informing me that my speakers were repaired and ready to be picked up. I drove over at lunch time and picked them up. Got them home and unboxed and installed back on their stands and had music playing within a few minutes. I cannot say enough about how delighted I am with the service I received. The folks at KEF are really great. Just wanted to give a shout out here on Roon. Really great company. Customer for life.

Nice!!
Was the work done free? or for a charge?
Did they say what the issue was?

Yes, amazingly the work was done with no charge to me. I was stunned. I was trying to work out in my head how much I would be willing to pay to fix it as opposed to just buying a new pair.

This is what they told me in an email when I asked the question about what failed: the speakers had a flashing power LED (as mentioned in the case). This is due to a failure in the amp panel, which causes the speaker to go into a protection mode. I swapped both amplifiers in both speakers, testing the speaker again and finding it functional.

Seven years old. Out of warranty for a long time. Just amazing.

Great to hear stories like this. And, I love my KEFs…

Wonder if it was an over eagerness to play the 1812 by Tchaikovsky at a tad loud ?!..

I had the same experience with a new, 4 month-old set of LS50Ws back in 2018 – it was a known problem with the amp board. Called up KEF in NJ, they emailed me an RMA, and off they went. Back in perfect condition about 3 weeks later. The LS50W’s have been working hard every day now for about 6 years – powering my TV and stereo sound – a LOT of hours. Great product, great company. I don’t even WANT to hear the Meta’s – cause I’m sure I’d love them.

Sounds great to me

In this manor we have Totem Forest Signatures which sound and look sublime :grinning:.

Wow!! I also live in NJ and own the LS50W (version 1). That’s excellent news. I know those internal amps can die, so this is EXCELLENT news.

Thankfully no such issues with my 2018 LS50Ws. They still sound stunning and I don’t have any intention of swapping them out for anything more up to date. Mine are connected by Ethernet to my Nucleus.

Great to know. I’ve only just moved into the world of speakers, amps, etc. and went with Kef.

Great news
I live in the Netherlands, a bit further away from KEF, but will contact them if something should happen with mine LS50W
