Here’s an example:
This is because Qobuz provides us with format information up front, but TIDAL does not, so we have to figure it out for ourselves.
Ok, so, what does that mean, the information will be added later ? Can I manually check the bit depth, or I just need to play a track and see what the signal path says ?
The signal path in Roon during playback will show the truth.
I think that once it’s played, Roon will add the info to its database (at least IIRC this was stated during the switch away from MQA)
Thanks but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Below an example of an album I’ve played a few times already an although the signal path indeed shows the bit info, the overal album bit depth & sampling rate are still missing.
In any case, I obviously want to select the right album version based on quality without having to play a song first (especially since something is probably playing already when I’m browsing for new albums). But ok, I understand this as a software limitation and I’ll just have to deal with it I guess.
I didn’t say that it happens immediately ![]()
During the MQA transition it was missing in many, many cases, and IIRC Roon Labs said that playing them would over time populate Roon’s database, but it’s certainly possible that this first happens centrally and is delivered to users’s databases when they fetch new metadata from Roon
It seems that Roon will not add any bit depth or sample rate info once the album was added to someone’s library. You can play it as often as you want. And it seems it got worse after TIDAL ditched MQA and introduced the Max setting. I have already sent a few tickets to Roon’s support but there is no fix even after months. To me this is a huge issue since I want to know about formats in my library and also a lot of functions like focus filters, playlist enhancements etc. will not work if Roon does not know the format. I really hope Roon will find a solution here. I find myself using TIDAL connect and BluOS more often because of that.
If so, this doesn’t seem right. I’ve searched for the statement I meant and it seems to say that the info should be added:
I know this statement but it’s not working. I have dozens of albums where the album format is still not showing after months and after they have played many times in my library.
That’s what I meant with „if so, this doesn’t seem right“
Sorry, you are right. I misunderstood your statement.
Hi there, have there been any developments on this issue? Especially new releases from Tidal miss the bit depth and khz rating in roon and these don’t seem to auto-populate themselves once enough time has passed or the track has been played. Signal path is one thing but I wanna know, without having to play a track or add an album blindly into the library, what the quality is?!
I started using qobuz today and it doesn’t seem to have this issue.
Thanks for bringing this up again. I’m also frustrated there are no developments on this matter.
@joel is there any development on this Tidal bit depth missing issue? Many recent albums are missing it in Roon and with Tidals multiple versions of an album, it can be a hassle to figure out which the proper one for oneself is. It’s not just new additions, months or weeks old albums are still missing the information and playing them doesn’t add the information to The room database.
It would be great if this could be automatically fixed or, at least allow users to add this info manually.
Should we create a support topic for this?
No, and it’s not on our roadmap either. Sorry.
A feature request would be more appropriate.
@Joel That is disappointing. The missing bit depth and sample rate gives you the impression that integration with TIDAL is not working. And some of Roon’s key functions like format filtering and playlist quality upgrade do not work without Roon knowing the format. For me, it’s a bug and should be fixed without a feature request.
Can you tell me some examples where it’s missing? I looked at several newish and older releases and can’t find any
Edit: OK, I find some very new ones, like one that was released today and probably isn’t super popular. I’m playing this now to see what happens
But everything I looked at that was some weeks old had the info.
Here you can see some of my latest “likes”. It is a mix of old and new releases. The format is only visible for 4 of 12 releases.
I’m having albums I already played like 25 times but still no format is showing.
I see, same for me with these. Not great. And feels like a bug for me as well. Why would it not suffice if you play it once, what else does it take, I wonder. And as you say, breaks some features.
